2021 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies: Echo Zulu works easy half-mile

DEL MAR, Calif. – Echo Zulu, expected to be a heavy favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies on Friday at Del Mar, turned in her final work for the race on Sunday here at Del Mar with an easy half-mile in 50.40 seconds for trainer Steve Asmussen.
Echo Zulu went by herself and never was asked for anything at any point.
She’s plenty fast when asked. Echo Zulu has won all three of her starts while on or near the lead. She has two Grade 1 wins, in the Spinaway at Saratoga and Frizette at Belmont. The 1 1/16-mile Juvenile Fillies will mark her first try around two turns.
Only nine were pre-entered in the Juvenile Fillies, and only seven are expected to run. Nest did not travel from New York, and two-time grass winner Cairo Memories will remain on turf in the Juvenile Fillies Turf on Friday.
Entries were due Monday morning, with posts to be drawn Monday afternoon.
