Pink Lloyd, Silent Poet, and Artie’s Princess are all finalists in two categories in the 2020 Sovereign Award voting for Canadian champions, which is tabulated by The Jockey Club of Canada. The venerable sprinter Pink Lloyd is a finalist for champion male sprinter and champion older male on the main track, categories that he swept last year. Turf-sprint specialist Silent Poet joins Pink Lloyd in the male sprinter category and also is up for champion male turf honors. Artie’s Princess is a finalist for champion 3-year-old filly and champion female sprinter. Sam-Son Farm, currently in the midst of a dispersal, is a finalist for outstanding owner and outstanding breeder. For the second year in a row, the Sovereign Awards ceremony will be done virtually in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As usual, the Horse of the Year finalists and Horse of the Year will be announced at the end of the ceremony. The 2020 media award finalists, the winner of the outstanding groom award, and the Special Sovereign Award winner will be announced by Feb. 15. 2020 Sovereign Award Finalists 2-year-old female Alda Dreaming of Drew Lady Speightspeare 2-year-old male Gretzky the Great Master Spy Ready to Repeat Stephen 3-year-old female Artie's Princess Curlin's Voyage Merveilleux 3-year-old male Belichick Mighty Heart Shirl's Speight Older main-track female Painting Souper Escape Summer Sunday Older main-track male Mr. Ritz Pink Lloyd Skywire Female turf horse Elizabeth Way Rideforthecause Theodora B.
