2018 Eclipse Awards: Hronis Racing

Brothers Kosta and Pete Hronis jumped into Thoroughbred ownership in 2010 and have swiftly found success at the top levels of the game. Their multiple Grade 1 winner Accelerate is in line to be the outfit’s second divisional Eclipse Award champion, joining 2015 champion 3-year-old filly Stellar Wind.

In the colors of Hronis Racing, Accelerate ripped through five Grade 1 victories in 2018, with wins in 6 of 7 starts overall, capped by a one-length score in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. The campaign made him a finalist not only for outstanding older dirt male, but also Horse of the Year.

Other top horses campaigned in 2018 by the Hronis brothers included Catalina Cruiser, who won his first four career starts, including the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap and Grade 2 Pat O’Brien Stakes before finishing sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile; Yuvetsi, winner of the Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo Handicap and Santa Lucia Stakes; and Gift Box, winner of his first West Coast start in the Grade 2 San Antonio Stakes in December.

In addition to Accelerate and Stellar Wind, other Grade 1 winners for Hronis Racing are Hard Aces, Iotapa, Lady of Shamrock, and Talco.
