Kenny Troutt’s WinStar Farm continues to be an industry leader on the racetrack and in the breeding shed, as evidenced by its third time as a finalist for the Eclipse Award as outstanding breeder. The Versailles, Ky., farm was North America’s leading breeder by graded stakes wins in 2017 (nine) and tied with Clearsky Farms and Besilu Stables for the most Grade 1 wins (four). WinStar finished second among breeders by North American wins (207) and earnings ($9,101,819). Leading the charge among the WinStar-breds were Grade 1 winners New Money Honey, American Patriot, and Bolt d’Oro. WinStar was also represented in the steeplechase ranks by Grade 1 winner and Eclipse finalist Mr. Hot Stuff. Other runners of note in 2017 bred or co-bred by WinStar include Grade 3 winner Pavel and Grade 1-placed Constellation. WinStar Farm is slated to stand 22 stallions at its Kentucky base in 2018, and many of its standout runners were bred in support of its roster. Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming was sired by WinStar resident Bodemeister, Preakness Stakes runner-up Classic Empire is by Pioneerof the Nile, and Breeders’ Cup winners Rushing Fall and Roy H are by More Than Ready. WinStar Farm previously won the outstanding breeder Eclipse in 2016 and was a finalist in 2008. The operation also earned the outstanding owner Eclipse in 2010.
