2014 steeplechase champion Demonstrative preps on the flat
The first and third races at Parx Racing on Sunday are 1 1/2-mile flat races on turf that are designed as prep races for upcoming steeplechase events.
The runners in race 1 include Demonstrative, the Eclipse Award-winning steeplechase horse of 2014. A 9-year-old trained by Richard Valentine, Demonstrative has won seven Grade 1 jump races since 2012.
Last year, he won this 1 1/2-mile race at Parx and then went to Saratoga and finished third in the Grade 1 A.P. Smithwick Memorial Steeplechase.
Race 3 is topped by Bob Le Beau, who won a prep at Parx by three lengths last year and then went on to victories in the Grade 1 New York Turf Writers at Saratoga and the Grade 1 Lonesome Glory at Belmont Park.
Bob Le Beau is trained by Elizabeth Voss. This will be the 9-year-old’s first start since November.
There are 10 entrants in race 1 and 11 in race 3.
