2012 Kentucky Derby: Rousing Sermon works on light morning at Churchill Downs

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Rousing Sermon worked five furlongs in 1:00.13 at Churchill Downs on Tuesday, the only potential Kentucky Derby starter to work over a racetrack upgraded from good to fast following the renovation break.
Rousing Sermon, who finished a fast-closing third in the Louisiana Derby, posted splits of 12.52, 24.92 and 36.45, completing his final quarter-mile in 23.68 before galloping out six furlongs in 1:14.23.
Union Rags went to the racetrack before dawn, jogging three-quarters of a mile and then galloping a mile under regular exercise rider Peter Brette while wearing a tongue tie for the first time on Tuesday.
Alpha made his first local appearance after arriving on the grounds from New York the previous afternoon. He turned in a routine gallop after the break.
