$200,000 Uncle Mo colt tops first session at Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale
The opening session of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic fall yearling sale showed a decline in average price compared to the sale's 2017 opener, but posted a steady median and hugely improved buyback rate, both indicators of a healthy middle market.
A total of 103 horses sold for $2,384,700 on Monday, led by a $200,000 Uncle Mo colt. With more horses sold, the gross showed a 13 percent improvement compared to $2,109,200 collected from 81 horses sold in last year's opener. The average price was $23,152, a session-to-session drop of 11 percent from $26,040. The median price for the session remained steady at $15,000.
The buyback rate was 20 percent, a strong improvement from 37 percent in the 2017 opener.
Albert Frassetto, via agent J.J. Crupi, struck early in the session for the $200,000 Uncle Mo colt who kept the lead throughout the evening. The Maryland-bred colt was consigned by Northview Stallion Station, as agent.
The colt is out of the Grade 3-placed Cozzene mare Who's Cozy, whose four starters are all winners. She is the dam of multiple stakes winner Who's In Town and stakes-placed Campaign Vows and is the second dam of stakes-placed Buff's in Love.
Who's Cozy is out of Grade 2 winner Who Did It and Run, dam of stakes winners Giant Run and American Victory. Other graded stakes winners on the catalog page include Hangover Kid, Surely Royal, and Truly A Judge.
