With 2 of the 5 in the field, Joseph is in the catbird seat for Wednesday's feature

Trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. appears to have the upper hand in Wednesday’s $48,000 main event, carded at a mile under allowance and optional-claiming conditions, having entered two of the five starters in the race, Overdeliver and Outshine.

Overdeliver will likely be favored, having won three of his last four starts, most recently beating a slightly easier field by 2 1/4 lengths, also at a mile, on May 2 while earning a career-best 90 Beyer Speed Figure. Outshine steps up in company and returns to the main track after being claimed by Joseph for $20,000 out of a conditioned-claiming victory on the turf.

“To be honest, I was surprised to see the race go with only five horses, and obviously Overdeliver should have the better shot,” Joseph said. “He’s really come into himself; he’s in very good form at the moment. Outshine was a good dirt horse back in the day. He ran second in the Tampa Bay Derby at 3, so I wanted to try him on the main track again.”
Completing the field are Glory of Florida, recently claimed by trainer Mike Maker for $50,000; Squeezadios, winless in six tries this season; and I’m a G Six, who like Overdeliver has captured three of his last four tries.
