19 elected as Breeders' Cup members
Foal and stallion nominators to the Breeders’ Cup have elected 19 individuals as members, including the former chief executive of the organization, Craig Fravel, according to the organization.
The members serve four-year terms and are responsible for selecting the Breeders’ Cup’s board of directors. There are 39 total members of the organization. Elections for members are held once every two years.
In addition to Fravel, who is now the chief executive of racing operations for The Stronach Group, the newly elected members are, in alphabetical order: Conrad Bandoroff, Barbara Banke, Jimmy Bell, Boyd Browning, Doug Cauthen, Eric Gustavson, Dr. Andreas Jacobs, W. Gray Lyster IV, Clem Murphy, Maria Niarchos-Gouaze, David O’Farrell, Bill Oppenheim, Bernie Sams, Alex Solis II, Oliver Tait, W. Elliott Walden, Barry Weisbord, and Aron Wellman.
Votes for members are allocated on a proportional system based on the number of foals and stallions that individuals or companies nominate to the Breeders’ Cup. There were 27 candidates for the recent election.
