$1.7M colt a Tattersalls record

The second day of the Tattersalls October yearling sale in Newmarket, England, on Wednesday produced a $1,743,000 session-topper.

Agent Demi O'Byrne signed for the top lot, a Diesis colt out of Irish Oaks runner-up Kitza, by Danehill. The price was a record for the October sale, which is conducted in two parts, the first of which ends Friday.

Wednesday's session sold 199 yearlings for total revenue of $27,692,784. That resulted in an average price of $139,159 and a median of $99,351. Figured in guineas, the currency in which the auction is conducted, the gross and average set new records. The average was up 42 percent over the corresponding session last year, and the median shot up by 50 percent.

The October sale's second part will run Oct. 13-15.
