The Hastings paddock sale closed on Saturday with more buybacks than horses sold, while the $15,000 juvenile Broadway Dave drew the day’s highest price. Five of the 11 entries changed hands at the auction, held in the paddock of Hastings Racecourse in Vancouver, B.C., for revenues of $35,500 (Canadian) and an average sale price of $7,100. The buyback rate finished at 54 percent. Gary McNeil bought sale-topper Broadway Dave, a Slew’s Tiznow colt. The unraced 2-year-old is out of the winning Bertrando mare Visual Treat, whose three winners from five starters includes stakes winner Native Treasure. Bred in California by Liberty Road Stables, Broadway Dave hails from the family of Grade 2 winner Seduire and Grade 1-placed stakes winner Lacquaria. Cindy Krasner consigned the colt as agent for Nancy Betts. Broadway Dave galloped through the paddock sale’s preview day on April 8. The colt was a $7,000 purchase at last year’s Barretts fall yearling and horses of racing age sale.
