$1.3 million Jackpot Hi 5 carryover, turf allowance highlight Friday card

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – A Jackpot Hi 5 carryover of $1,332,741 highlights Friday’s Woodbine card. The massive pot is up for grabs in the eighth and final race, a $6,250 conditioned-claiming sprint with an 11-horse field.

The Jackpot Hi 5 will be suspended after Sunday, and there will be a mandatory payout on Woodbine Mile Day, Sept. 16.

Liddyup should be favored in the featured seventh race Friday, a nonwinners-of-two grass route for Ontario-sired allowance types and $40,000 claimers.

Liddyup showed little during her 3-year-old campaign last year in New York. A daughter of English Channel, she’s bred to be a late bloomer and is in the midst of a productive local campaign for trainer Tony Gattellaro.

Liddyup defeated $40,000 maidens in her second start of the meet June 7 and came right back to finish third in a first-level allowance June 25. She took on the boys in a 12-furlong allowance July 14 and didn’t disgrace herself by finishing three lengths back in fifth.

Liddyup ran for a $40,000 tag in her last race. It was taken off the turf, and she wound up second to a sharp Niigon’s Bay, who came back to clear the nonwinners-of-three Ontario-sired allowance condition.

Friday’s card begins at 1 p.m. Eastern.

KEY CONTENDERS

Liddyup, by English Channel

Last 3 Beyers: 66-73-70

◗ Patrick Husbands, who was aboard for the majority of her races this year, rides Friday. He is 2 for 7 at the meet for Gattellaro.

Most Inspiring, by Gio Ponti

Last 3 Beyers: 65-74-55

◗ The 4-year-old has done the bulk of her damage in sprints, although she did finish fourth in two one-mile turf stakes at 2.

◗ She’s dropping off a fifth-place finish in a six-furlong allowance won by Reverse, who returned to finish a troubled third in the Grade 3 Ontario Colleen Stakes.

◗ She adds blinkers, and trainer Kevin Attard has a 27 percent strike rate when adding blinkers over the past two years with a return on investment of $1.91.

Lady Brie, by Parading

Last 3 Beyers: 67-68-64

◗ She rallied from off fast fractions to finish a close second at this level here Aug. 19. In her lone turf race, she lacked room on the turn and finished fourth behind Alice’s War, Niigon’s Bay, and Kadley going nine furlongs July 12.

Sam’s Cross, by Singing Saint

Last 3 Beyers: 60-66-65

◗ The 3-year-old made a bid into contention on the far turn before fading to fourth behind Niigon’s Bay and Giddyuyp on Aug. 12. This is her first grass outing, and her sire has produced 12 percent turf winners.
