ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Woodbine has released the nominations for the 2023 Canadian Triple Crown, 124 Canadian-bred 3-year-olds in total, along with the 63 nominees for Woodbine Oaks for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies. Transitioning from the Queen’s Plate following the death of Queen Elizabeth last year, the 164th running of the King’s Plate kicks off the Triple Crown, going 1 1/4 miles on the Tapeta at Woodbine Aug. 20. It will be followed by the $400,000 Prince of Wales Stakes over 1 3/16 miles on the dirt at Fort Erie on Sept. 12, and the $400,000 Breeders’ Stakes going 1 1/2 miles on the main turf at Woodbine on Oct. 1. Among the more prominent nominees are reigning Canadian champion male 2-year-old Philip My Dear, Keeneland maiden victor Equivoque, Santa Anita allowance winner Ancient Peace, and Grade 3 Florida Oaks winner Mission of Joy.
