The history of racing in Indianapolis is rich and storied, and Horseshoe Indianapolis has played a role in it. Horseshoe Indianapolis is a racetrack located in Shelbyville, Ind., just a short drive southeast of Indianapolis.

While Horseshoe Indianapolis may not be as famous as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, which hosts the iconic Indianapolis 500 car race, it has its own unique place in the racing history of the region. The venue originally opened in 2003 under the name Indiana Downs, but it underwent significant renovations and expansions over the years, eventually becoming today’s Horseshoe Indianapolis. Since 2012, the track has been the home of the Indiana Derby, the state’s marquee Thoroughbred race for 3-year-olds.
