Frank Stronach, the influential owner-breeder who owns The Stronach Group racing company, will be presented with the second annual Dinny Phipps Award by its sponsor, the Grayson-Jockey Club Foundation, the organization announced on Tuesday. Stronach will receive the award during a Grayson-Jockey Club fund-raising event on June 7 at Bryant Park Grill in New York, the organization said. The award was inaugurated last year to honor the late Ogden Mills “Dinny” Phipps, the former chairman of The Jockey Club, and his efforts to promote horse welfare and safety. The statement from the Grayson-Jockey Club noted that Stronach has committed to the “highest standards” for safety at the racetracks owned by his company, as well as his creation 12 years ago of the Adena Springs Retirement Foundation to care for off-the-track Thoroughbreds. “Frank Stronach has been committed to improving all aspects of the horse racing industry since entering the sport more than 50 years ago,” Earle Mack, the owner-breeder who created the award, said in a statement. The inaugural award was presented to the Phipps family last year.
