| Steven_Crist: | Test 123 |
| DRF_WebGrp: | Thanks for coming tonight. We'll be starting shortly. |
| Steven_Crist: | test |
| Randallscott35: | Q: Hey Steve, How vulnerable is Leroi in the Mile. It seems to me the front end is simply not the place to be in the Mile. Why not Singletary right back? |
| Steven_Crist: | Good evening, all. |
| Steven_Crist: | A superior front-runner can win the Mile -- Lure did it twice. And Leroi's a truly superior horse. |
| Steven_Crist: | But you do wonder about the course condition. |
| Steven_Crist: | The "yielding" course he ran on at woobine yielded a mile in 1:35. |
| Steven_Crist: | The one at Belmont may be much slower after all the rain we're having. |
| roses_are_red: | Q: what's your real opinion of Adieu? Overrated? |
| Steven_Crist: | She may seem overrated off her mediocre Beyers but I think she's better than her figs. |
| Steven_Crist: | She was pretty impressive winning at a mile from the inside at Belmont and she's got every right to improve. |
| Steven_Crist: | She may be an underlay at 5-2 but she's not a fraud or a total throwout. |
| Backstretch: | Q: Steve Borregos last race was very impressive if he duplicates that effort is he the classic winner? |
| Steven_Crist: | Not necessarily. I think St. Liam's still the better horse and the horse to beat in the Classic. Look, Borrego's improved and his last two races are good. |
| Steven_Crist: | But in the JCGC everyone else ran horribly so it was a little bit of an optical illusion. |
| clippers_2: | Q: my lock of day is diamond omi in juv what do u think |
| Steven_Crist: | I think it's a free country and we can all have a different lock of the day. She's not mine. In fact, I'm going six deep in |
| Steven_Crist: | the race and not using her. |
| ACH922: | Q: Can you throw our Megahertz if the ground is soft on Saturday? |
| Steven_Crist: | Soft ground would be just another minus for a very neat horse who I just don't like in this spot. |
| Steven_Crist: | Megahertz is terrific in her element -- SoCal and weak competition. |
| The_Pope: | Q: Mr. Christ, Thanks for taking the time to answer my question. In the Mile 1/2 all the talk seems to be centered around Bago and / or Azaamour. After watching the Arlington Million I think 49ers Son has a big shot and a decent price. Whats your opinion |
| Steven_Crist: | He just looks a couple lengths behind the best Americans, and maybe all the Americans are a couple lengths behind the Europeans. I can't see him doing much more than rounding out the tri or super. |
| classhandicapper: | Q: Sensation's last was very fast, but does she stack up on quality. She was beaten badly by the better fillies in her prior race. |
| Steven_Crist: | She's a very intriguing horse. I'm inclined to throw out her one loss. She just didn't seem to run at all in the Spinaway. |
| Steven_Crist: | She's the only one in the field with two 90+ Beyers. The question with her is how far she wants to go. |
| spinninv: | Q: Hi Steve St Liam has given some Monster visual performances. Do you like his chances in the Classic? |
| Steven_Crist: | Yes I do. I think he's the best horse, a little underappreciated, and something of an overlay at 2-1/5-2. |
| sjs: | Q: Steve, Saint Liam, Borrego and Rock Hard Ten appear to be a cut above the rest of the field in the Classic. Do you see any other horses challenging these three? |
| Steven_Crist: | If I were alive to just the three of them in the pick-something, I'd feel like I was about 80 percent to get through it. There aren't a lot of other places to go in the race. |
| Steven_Crist: | Oratorio is a complete guess. Perfect Drift is plausible on his best day but when's the last time he actually beat a really good horse? |
| Russ: | Q: What are your thoughts about Starcraft entering the Classic. Do you give him a chance? |
| Steven_Crist: | I just don't see him at all. I think the owners are on a pride trip here and think he can do anything. I'll let him beat me. |
| watchmaker_s_earing: | Q: Steve how about nation in the classic? He ran with Boreggo in the Pacific and was somewhat making up ground on Rock Hard Ten in the paceless race. Do I need him on my PK 4 ticket? |
| Steven_Crist: | He's a strong contender....for third. I think he can get a piece of it but he's not better than the fourth best horse in the race. |
| Koda: | Q: Any thoughts on silver train in the sprint??? |
| Steven_Crist: | Let's see if he actually runs. After he worked Monday, Dutrow said he had a problem he wasn't sure could be fixed. That's not the kind of thing you like to hear five days before the race. |
| horserace17: | Q: Steven, How vulnerable do you feel Lost In The Fog is? |
| Steven_Crist: | If you say anything negative about LITF's chances, people accuse you of drowning puppies in your spare time but I do think he's vulnerable. |
| Steven_Crist: | He has never faced quality early speed or quality older horses. Of course he can win -- he's a terrific little horse -- but I think he's going to be wildly overbet at 3-5. |
| Mike_N: | Q: Was Steviewonderboy's move in the Del Fut as BIG as it seemed??? |
| Steven_Crist: | It's hard to tell because the quality of what he was running by is pretty unclear |
| spinninv: | Q: Who can beat Lost in the Fog? Gilchrist has him tight he tight and he is looks unbeatable! |
| Steven_Crist: | The likeliest scenario for his getting beat is a big early pace that makes the race melt down. Then you want to look at the closers like Taste of Paradise and Lion Tamer. |
| blackcloud: | Q: what do you think of superfly's chances in the juvenile? |
| Steven_Crist: | Slim and none. He was backing up into a final quarter of 27 3/5. |
| Minn_Skinny: | Q: I like Stream Cat in the Juvy, awesome sire, do you see him "in for a piece"/ |
| Steven_Crist: | If the race totally falls apart for some reaon, he could be clunking up at the end but he would have to improve dramatically to get anything. His best Beyer is a 75 and it's going to take a 95+ to win the race. |
| Cornell_Pride: | Q: Is Artie Schiller the same horse he used to be? It seems like his electrifying turn of foot has been dulled a bit. Your thoughts? |
| Steven_Crist: | His last two starts he didn't get a chance to show that turn of foot because he was right on top of the pace both times. Having said that, I don't think he's good enough on his best day to beat Leroi or the top Euros. |
| j_bird: | Q: are the euro's the best in the turf races |
| Steven_Crist: | You have completely different Euro scenarios in the three grass races. There's no consistent answer to your question. |
| Steven_Crist: | In the F&M Turf, there's a legit question whether Ouija Board is the same horse she was a year ago. The other Euros look awful. |
| Steven_Crist: | In the Mile, Leroi's as good or better than ANY Euro miler. |
| Steven_Crist: | In the Turf, Bago and Azamour may be a cut above the Americans. |
| J-Blo: | Q: Have you heard anything about Knights Templar that indicates she's the real deal? Her last seems to phenomenal. |
| Steven_Crist: | She ran against nothing earning that Beyer 93 but the fig is legit. It's kind of a War Emblem situation. At 20-1, you're supposed to throw her in. |
| bignick: | Q: Steve - Can Imperialism rally and win the sprint. |
| Steven_Crist: | I don't think so. He doesn't have a race in his life that suggests he's really good enough and this is not his ideal distance. Maybe 3rd or 4th if the race totally falls apart. |
| Fraise: | Q: Steve, your thoughts on Wend? Any shot to win the F&M Turf? |
| Steven_Crist: | She'll be in my mix. She's become a forgotten horse and I think she has some improvement still in her, which you can't say about some of the older veterans in this field. The |
| Steven_Crist: | F&M Turf is a race where almost everyone is within two lengths of one another on paper. If Ouija Board isn't the same horse, a LOT of them are eligible to win. |
| D_Cali: | Q: I think the best horse in the juvenile might be Sorceror's Stone. The tremendous improvement on the stretchout is a huge step in the right direction. Can he beat the Samurai? |
| Steven_Crist: | I think he's the second most likely winner of the race. I'm not crazy about the seven-week layoff but we still don't know how good he is and he handled the mile very well. |
| 3dee: | Q: keeneland kat's final furlong time (9/3) of 12.2 looks strong...does she have a legit shot? |
| Steven_Crist: | I don't think so. She was very weak backing up late behind Adieu in the Matron |
| ian: | Q: The Euros are best on the turf. That is a fact, but that does not mean they will win. The American turf horses such as sand springs and gun salute should be bettable at juicy odd. Agree? |
| Steven_Crist: | Diasagree. Sand Springs looks totally overmatched in the Mile and she runs her best on very hard courses with easy |
| Steven_Crist: | leads. She'll get neither here. |
| Jimmy_Man: | Q: Is First Samurai the real deal? ... and if so @ 8-5? |
| Steven_Crist: | I think he's for real and a legit favorite. 8-5 seems about the right price. |
| toccet: | Q: what do you think of stellar Janes form cycle? Looks great otherwise..... |
| Steven_Crist: | She ran great in last year's Distaff but she's had a negative trainer change and just two races since then, both soft-pace wire jobs. At 7-2 I'm against her. |
| dotus: | Q: Wildcat Heir in the sprint? Only one race this year but speed and pace figs are very competitive and has been working nicely. |
| Steven_Crist: | If you're trying to beat LITF you probably want to throw him into the mix. It's just hard to trust him because he's obviously had serious physical problems that have kept him away from the races. |
| Butterface: | Q: Will Society Selection bounce back and give Ashado a race? |
| Steven_Crist: | I've been disappointer with her this year. The only race she won was against outclassed company and she just never seems to get there against the top ones. |
| peewee: | Q: Is Flower Alley's Jockey Gold Cup a throwout or is he completely out of form ? |
| Steven_Crist: | It's a throwout in that nothing went right for him and he ended up duelling with his own rabbit. But it was questionable whether he was good enough and it's possible he's heading in the wrong direction. The account of his work the other day was not too encouraging either. |
| classhandicapper: | Q: Can Perfect Drift finally win the big one? |
| Steven_Crist: | He's an admirably durable old guy butother than the time he accidentally beat Mineshaft when the latter got a bad ride, he just seems to hang horribly against top-class company. |
| steviethewiz: | Q: Steve a horse with his last byer his highest never seem to win the classic, 1 for 43 I think, does this spell doom for the Rock ? |
| Steven_Crist: | You're splitting hairs here. RHT didn't run a terribly taxing race or an explosively high new career-best race. I'm not crazy about him for other reasons but I don't think he'll lose bacause his last race was "too good." |
| machina: | Q: with the results of the Canadian international at Woodbine, are the Euro turf horses a cut below the U.S. turfers or was this a fluke??? |
| Steven_Crist: | That's a very interesting question because the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic posed a similar situation. Ace had been right there with the top Euros and if they're a cut above he should have drowned the field. Did Ace not run his A race |
| Jimmy_Man: | Q: Battle Won is going from turf to dirt and it worked for him in May ... upset? contender?? |
| Steven_Crist: | or are the Euros not as dominant as think? |
| Steven_Crist: | I'm generally a fan of the turf-to-dirt angle and he's got back sprints that are good enough. I'll be using him. |
| WhoDey: | Q: I am a big fan of Limehouse. What do you think about Limehouse's chances? |
| Steven_Crist: | I don't see it. He ran okay in the Kelso but he'd have to improve to beat Funfair and Artie, much less the Euros, much less Leroi. |
| Unitas: | Q: Hey Steve, Do you give Angara a shot in the F&M Turf based on her very good efforts on soft or yielding turf? I know she will be a square price, and has beaten some of these before. Your thoughts? |
| Steven_Crist: | She may move up on soft but my concern is she's going in the wrong direction. She was awful last time out with absolutely no excuse. |
| money: | Q: from money: turf will probably be soft so how bout bago's chances. |
| Steven_Crist: | He's got an excellent chance. You're talking about a horse who won the Arc last year and was a decent third this year. |
| Longshot_2: | Q: What about Intercontinental? Bailey chose OB? |
| Steven_Crist: | She's better at a mile, she's a head case and I don't think soft turf will help. |
| verl62: | Q: What's your opinion of Dr, Pleasure? |
| Steven_Crist: | I think he's got genuine quality but this may be asking too much -- third career start, hasn't been beyond 7f. But if he's a giant price, I'll use him, because I think he'll eventually catch up to these horses and maybe eventually will come sooner rather than later. |
| TrooperSeven: | Q: Can that 110 beyer by Elusive Jazz be believed? Didn't Cajun Beat win the Phoenix BC with a lifetime best Beyer, then go on to win the Sprint? |
| Steven_Crist: | I'm a little leery of him because he's never run against top horses -- the Phoenix was his first graded stakes and it drew a subpar field. But he's sure gotten good at the right time. |
| reggie: | Q: irealley like ORIGINAL SPIN IN the bc j/f i heard jerry high on this horse any thoughts? |
| Steven_Crist: | Bailey was quoted as saying he really liked her after her most recent work. She looks okay, but |
| Steven_Crist: | the A-W Lassie set up perfectly for her and the A-W Futurity on the same card went faster. |
| alydar99: | Q: in the gold (20-1) 2 for 3 at belmon...3 for 4 at distance..and her dad owes me one in the breeders cup! |
| Steven_Crist: | She'd have to take another step forward. Beating Leave Me Alone and Ylanda B Too doesn't prove a whole lot. Not impossible, but not quite there yet. |
| SPEED_GUY: | Q: Can Karen's Caper come back on "short rest" (I remember when horses ran every Saturday) and improve enough in the F&M |
| Steven_Crist: | She really looks completely overmatched to me, but you'll get a big price if you like her. |
| vetdrm: | Q: Any chance Sun King comes in the money? |
| Steven_Crist: | I don't see how. He doesn't have a race in his life that's remotely competitive with the three favorites. |
| Mazel_Trick: | Q: Steven, I am looking to hit the superfecta for the classic. With that said, who are you 'throwouts' for the classic? |
| Steven_Crist: | Throwouts from fourth? Hmmm...Super Frolic, Jack Sullivan, A Bit O gold, Starcraft. |
| suffolk: | Q: Host was supplmented at 20%. Waht do you think of the investment? |
| Steven_Crist: | I think it's very "sporting" of them and fortunately they have so much money that $300k is like anyone else putting up thirty bucks. It's a bad bet but more power to them. |
| edforstar: | Q: pleasant home made a nice move on a speed favoring track, do you think she has a shot if the pace breaks down? |
| Steven_Crist: | I think she's live for third or fourth but it would take both a complete meltdown AND non-efforts from the other closers for her to actually win. |
| longshot: | Q: Does Silverfoot have any realistic chance in the BCTURF?......Thanks |
| Steven_Crist: | None whatsoever. |
| CHRISKELLEY: | Q: Wonder Again & Film Maker---chances?, who's better??? |
| Steven_Crist: | They both have good chances. I prefer Wonder Again, who moves up on soft. Film Maker just never seems to get there. |
| alixjjs: | Q: I like Singletary again, what do you think? |
| Steven_Crist: | His Oak Tree Mile was very good. He could be in career form but I think he'll have to be even better than he was last year to win again. |
| DaveW: | Q: In the mile, soft turf will have to help whipper. The question is how much do you move her up? |
| Steven_Crist: | I thnk Whipper and Valixir both move up and soft turf and I consider them the top threats to Leroi. |
| Chase_T: | Q: Is Pomeroy a Spa specialist or can he win the Sprint? |
| Steven_Crist: | I vote for Spa specialist -- he's run Beyers of 104, 108 and 114 at Saratoga, hasn't exceeded 100 anywhere else. |
| Steven_Crist: | Good night and thanks for coming. Good luck Saturday and bring money. |
