Rockport Harbor, in his final preparation for the Grade 2, $325,000 Coolmore Lexington Stakes, had a strong gallop at Oaklawn Park on Saturday morning and was credited with a five-furlong breeze in 1:02.05. He was scheduled to fly to Kentucky on Sunday.

General John B pointing to Derby

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - General John B, second in the Santa Anita Derby, will make his next start in the Kentucky Derby, said his owner, Ross McLeod, CEO of Great Canadian Gaming Corporation, the parent company of Hastings.

McLeod made the announcement in front of a large opening-day crowd at Hastings Saturday.

"If he gets in we're going," he said

McLeod bought General John B as a 2-year-old and originally planned to ship him to Hastings.

A romp in Wood creates a favorite

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The spectacular victory by Bellamy Road in the , which closed Sunday after four days of wagering.

Bellamy Road closed as the 3-1 favorite in Pool 3, which until Saturday had had a mixed bag of favorites hovering in the 8-1 range. But after Bellamy Road won the Wood in stakes-record time, the money came pouring in on the Nick Zito-trained colt, and if he captures the 131st Derby at Churchill Downs on May 7, his Pool 3 backers will collect an $8.80 payoff for every $2 wagered.

Godolphin colt slim early pick

Blues and Royals, the colt owned by Godolphin Racing who won the UAE Derby by 12 lengths two weeks ago in Dubai, opened as a slight favorite during the early hours of wagering into Pool 3 of the , which began its four-day run Thursday at noon Eastern.

As of 5 p.m. Eastern, Blues and Royals was the 7-1 favorite over the mutuel field, also 7-1. The field, the "all others" alternative to 23 separately listed betting interests, closed as the favorite in Pool 1 in February and Pool 2 in March.

Julio Canani never before has run a horse in the Kentucky Derby, or the Santa Anita Derby, let alone a filly, let alone the favorite, which is what Sweet Catomine will be when the Grade 1, $750,000 Santa Anita Derby is run for the 68th time on Saturday.

High Fly top choice in final pool

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Eight new names are among the 23 separately listed interests in the third and final pool of the , which opens for its four-day run Thursday at noon Eastern.

Blues and Royals, a 12-length winner of the UAE Derby, is foremost among the 3-year-olds joining the Pool 3 lineup. Also, Closing Argument, who was a separate interest in Pool 1 in February but was lumped into the mutuel field for Pool 2 last month, is once again being offered separately in Pool 3.
