Bill paves way for foreign wagering

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Woodbine will once again host the separate Canadian pools for Saturday's Breeders' Cup card at Lone Star Park, including a pick six with a mandatory payout.

It is highly probable, though, that well before next year's Breeders' Cup, Canadian horseplayers will be wagering directly into the pool of their choice south of the border.

Paddy's Daisy classier, faster

John Velazquez winning a race aboard a Todd Pletcher-trained horse is a regular sight in New York. It happens less frequently in Kentucky, probably because they are often busy winning elsewhere.

That may change Thursday, when Velazquez and Pletcher - the leading money-earning jockey and trainer in North America - are represented by Paddy's Daisy in the $100,000 Jessamine County Stakes at Keeneland.

'Kissin' does best right here

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - The horse-for-course theory gets tested right away on openinbg day of the Aqueduct meet, when Kissin Saint - who has won at the Big A and nowhere else in his 14-race career - takes on four rivals in an optional claiming route.

The 1 1/8-mile race is for older horses who have not won a race of a mile or longer this year, except claiming or restricted races, or those who have not won four "other than." Two entrants, Limero and Full Flow, have been entered for the $100,000 claiming price.

Weekend of winners for Bell

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Considering the circumstances, trainer David Bell won as many races here as he could have last weekend.

Bell did send out one loser, Vincita, who finished sixth in Saturday's $250,000 Princess Elizabeth Stakes, but he also trains the Princess Elizabeth winner, Victorious Ami.

On Sunday, Bell recorded back-to-back longshot scores with his only two starters: Synful Charm took the day's second race, a maiden $32,000 claimer, and I Thee Wed won the third, the $282,750 Highlander Handicap.
