Turf Paradise barns raided

Investigators with the Arizona Department of Racing and the Department of Public Safety raided several barns at Turf Paradise in Phoenix on Wednesday, confiscating undisclosed substances from seven of them, according to the director of the track's racing department, Geoffrey Gonsher.

Citing an ongoing investigation, Gonsher would not identify the drugs that were found or the trainers whose barns were raided, but said the drugs would qualify as controlled substances. Approximately 15 barns were searched, Gonsher said.

Remington handle rises slightly

Remington Park in Oklahoma City closed out its 65-date Thoroughbred meet Dec. 5 with gains in attendance and handle.

Remington handled an average from all sources of $364,030 daily on its live races, an increase of less than 1 percent over last year, while average daily attendance was up 2.7 percent to 1,589. Daily purses at the track rose 9.9 percent to $83,000, and the average field size was 9.4 horses, up from 9.0 in 2003.

Jazzn Boots no longer a 10-1 shot

PORTLAND, Ore. - A field of 10 2-year-old Quarter Horses, including a pair of stable couplings, will vie for a purse of $59,000 in Saturday's renewal of the Far West Futurity Finals at 400 yards.

Seize the Day heads Gold Rush

ALBANY, Calif. - While nationwide attention on 2-year-olds is focused on the Hollywood Futurity, Golden Gate Fields on Saturday has a stakes of its own for early Derby hopefuls, the $50,000-added Gold Rush Stakes at one mile.

Heading the field is , who won his debut by 11 lengths, then was a troubled third in the Grade 3 Hollywood Prevue, beaten only two lengths by probable Futurity favorite Declan's Moon.

"The Futurity was coming up such a tough race, we wanted to try to find an easy race for him to build his confidence," said Kristin Mulhall, Seize the Day's trainer.
