$137,599 carryover at Hollywood Park

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Get to the ATM on Monday and Tuesday. No one hit the pick six at Hollywood Park on Sunday, so when racing resumes on Wednesday, there will be a carryover of $137,599 already in the kitty.

Most of the pick six races on Wednesday have small to moderate fields. One race has six entrants, two have seven, one has eight, one has nine, and one has 10. The pick six encompasses the final six races, numbers three through eight.

Hollywood Story wins Bayakoa Handicap

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - George Krikorian shows pictures at his eponymous movie theaters, but for the longest time, neither his best runner, Hollywood Story, nor his trainer, John Shirreffs, got their picture taken.

Hollywood Story ended that drought on Sunday by overcoming a speed-favoring track and a wide trip to capture the Grade 2, $150,000 at Hollywood Park. But Shirreffs, ever reticent, stayed out of the winner's circle pictures, despite pleadings from Krikorian and his large entourage.

Enough Is Enough captures Kingarvie Stakes

Enough Is Enough (inside) out duels Dave the Knave in the stretch to win the Kingarvie Stakes by a neck at Woodbine on Sunday.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Under a strong ride from Todd Kabel, Enough Is Enough survived a stretch-long battle with favored Dave the Knave to capture the $134,875 at Woodbine Sunday.

Kabel equaled Avelino Gomez's record of most stakes wins in a year by a jockey in Ontario in the Kingarvie. Gomez set the record (36) in 1966, when there were 73 stakes run in the province, compared to 116 which were run at Woodbine this year.

"It's an awesome feeling," Kabel said. "It's a great honor to be in (Gomez's) league."

Wice O Kat best in Os West Oregon Futurity

PORTLAND, Ore. - Wice O Kat won the centerpiece of Saturday's Oregon Championship Day program at Portland Meadows, edging male competition in a thrilling renewal of the $41,780 Os West Oregon Futurity at a mile.

Wice O Kat, a 2-year-old daughter of Katowice who races for Mr. and Mrs. William Johnson, finished resolutely under Twyla Beckner to prevail by a scant nose over A Colt Named Sue, with Abtastic just another head back in third. Wice O Kat, who is trained by Jim Fergason, paid $9.40 to win after getting the mile in 1:41.80.

Green Team captures Oakland Handicap

ALBANY, Calif. - Green Team ($17.40) sprinted to a quick lead and was never challenged as he defeated a solid field to win the $58,850 Oakland Handicap at Golden Gate Fields on Saturday.

A multiple stakes winner since being claimed for $32,000 in July 2003, Green Team took the lead from inside Bluesthestandard down the backstretch. He won the six-furlong race by 3 1/4 lengths in 1:07.77 as they ran one-two all the way. Onebadshark, who ran third all the way, was another two lengths back.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - For Gary Gullo, training horses is easier the second time around.

Gullo, who recently returned to training after spending about 18 months as a jockey's agent, saddled his first stakes winner in five years Saturday when Travelator took advantage of a wicked pace to get up in the final strides and win the $80,900 by a head over Sensibly Chic at Aqueduct.

Witt Ante in front all the way

NEW ORLEANS - Witt Ante led every step of the way Saturday at Fair Grounds to win the $150,000 at 8-1 odds.

The race was the featured event of the $1 million Louisiana Champions Day card, which consisted of seven Thoroughbred stakes and three Quarter Horse stakes for statebreds.

NEW ORLEANS - Happy Ticket's reputation as Louisiana's new superhorse was validated Saturday with a smashing four-length victory over Destiny Calls in the $100,000 .

The Ladies topped the undercard on Louisiana Champions Day, which consisted of 10 stakes for statebreds.

Happy Ticket showed another dimension in her victory over the toughest competition she has ever faced by squeezing through a small opening along the rail in the stretch to run her undefeated record to seven straight races.

Truly a Judge earns biggest career win in Native Diver

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Frustrated by a string of losses, the partners that own Truly a Judge considered dropping the gelding into claiming races earlier this year. Eventually, they opted against it, and kept Truly a Judge in stakes and allowance races.

Saturday, that decision looked even wiser when Truly a Judge won the most important race of his career in the $100,000 at Hollywood Park.

The Grade 3 Native Diver marked the 41st career start for Truly a Judge, a 6-year-old gelding.

Meadow Bride runs away with Illinois Debutante

STICKNEY, Ill. - The place to be Saturday at Hawthorne Race Course was the inside part of the track. It was from there that Meadow Bride broke in the Pat Whitworth Illinois Debutante, and the race was no contest.

Pressing the pace from the start, Meadow Bride edged up two paths wide on the backstretch, took the lead on the far turn, and ran by herself through the stretch, winning the $116,175 Debutante by 5 3/4 lengths.
