Lundy's Liability best in San Antonio Handicap

ARCADIA, Calif. - Lundy's Liability's first start of 2005 was postponed twice, but eventually was worth the wait.

After being scratched from the San Gabriel Handicap on Jan. 1 and the San Pasqual Handicap on Jan. 8 because of sloppy tracks, Lundy's Liability recorded his fourth career stakes win in Sunday's $250,000 at Santa Anita.

Ridden by David Flores, Lundy's Liability ($8.20) fought through the length of the stretch before putting away the stubborn frontrunner Truly a Judge. Lundy's Liability finished 1 1-8 miles in 1:49.05, scoring by 1 1-2 lengths.

Twilight Vision wins the $40,000 Jersey Village at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday.

Twilight Vision and his entrymate, Oncearoundtwice, swept the first two places in the $40,000 Jersey Village at Sam Houston Race Park on Saturday night and paid $11.20.

Twilight Vision led throughout for a neck win in the mile and a sixteenth turf race for statebreds, setting fractions of 25.88 seconds for the opening quarter and 52.61 seconds for the half-mile mark. He covered the distance over firm turf in 1:49.17. Oncearoundtwice was second, a length and a quarter clear of third-place finisher and favorite Goosey Moose.

Nitro Chip pulled the biggest upset of Louisiana Premiere Night at Delta Downs on Saturday night when he won the program's richest stakes, the , over favorite Witt Ante and paid $18.80. The Championship was one of six stakes for Louisiana-breds, and the stakes, coupled with four starter races for statebreds, made for total purses of $1 million.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Even when several things went against him, Rock Hard Ten proved why he is the best 4-year-old in California in Saturday's $300,000 at Santa Anita.

A nose victory over Imperialism did not unfold the way jockey Gary Stevens had expected, but the result marked Rock Hard Ten's third major stakes win in his nine-race career.

Major stables ship in

NEW ORLEANS - The biggest change Churchill Downs made when it purchased Fair Grounds was to rearrange the stakes schedule to cluster some of this track's biggest races together in order to attract multiple entrants from top stables in Florida and California. HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Closing Argument, benefiting from a ground-saving trip that was the reciprocal of the wide journey encountered by favored High Fly, pulled off a mild upset in Saturday's Grade 3, $150,000 , the first of three 1 1/8-mile Kentucky Derby prep races this meet at Gulfstream Park.

Closing Argument ($17.80) could have gone in the shorter Hutcheson Stakes earlier in the day, but trainer Kiaran McLaughlin thought it was more important to go in the Holy Bull in order to gauge Closing Argument's Derby credentials.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Medallist survived early and late challenges from a gritty Mister Fotis along with his own propensity for bearing out through the stretch to register a 1 3/4-length victory in Saturday's $100,000 at Gulfstream Park.

Medallist, a 4-year-old son of Touch Gold, contested the early pace with Mister Fotis before shaking free while still well within himself around the turn. Medallist remained clear upon entering the stretch, then was fully extended to hold off Mister Fotis while bearing out steadily down the lane.
