Calder: Twilight Road repeats

Twilight Road wins the $100,000 Memorial Day Handicap at Calder on Monday.

Twilight Road successfully defended his title in Calder's $100,000 . But unlike last year, when he registered an easy five-length victory, Twilight Road had to overcome a tough trip before posting a hard-fought three-quarter-length decision over Whos Crying Now.

Twilight Road ($3.40) was shuffled back to near the rear of the pack and forced to race between horses down near what has been a deep and tiring rail during the opening half-mile

Philadelphia: 'Worldwind' romps

Whirlwind Romance with Ryan Barber riding, wins the $100,000 Turf Monster Handicap at Philadelphia Park on Monday.

Worldwind Romance returned to the East Coast for the first time since September and regained his old form for an easy 5 1/4-length victory in the $100,000 at Philadelphia Park.

A 7-year-old trained by Mark Shuman for owner Michael Gill, Worldwind Romance last year reeled off four consecutive wins in turf sprints at four different tracks in Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, and Kentucky. After failing to fire in the Grade 3 Hollywood Turf Express in California and two starts at the Fair Grounds, he was given an extended vacation.

Finger Lakes: Ruby's Rocket surprises

Ruby's Rocket (3) owned by Timothy Murphy and David Brown edges Buck Mountain in the 26th running of the $50,000 Susan B. Anthony Handicap.

Ruby's Rocket, the second-longest shot on the board after losing her last 10 starts, woke up at the right time and scored a major surprise in the $50,000 at Finger Lakes.

Sent off at 30-1 in a field of eight New York-bred fillies and mares, Ruby's Rocket ($63.50) rallied under jockey Chin Yang to take the lead from Storm on the Lake entering the turn and held off a late outside bid by Buck Mountain to prevail by three-quarters of a length.

Delaware: The Lady's Groom by a nose

The Lady's Groom ($6), winless in his last 10 starts, outfought Cherokee's Boy by a nose to capture a at Delaware Park.

Ridden by Jose Caraballo for trainer Mike Gorham, The Lady's Groom led for nearly a mile in the nine-furlong race, briefly was passed by even-money favorite Cherokee's Boy, then came back to win a head bob at the wire.

The winning time for 1 1/8 miles on a fast track was 1:52.10.

It was the first win for The Lady's Groom since April 2004 in the Jim McKay at Pimlico. Overall, The Lady's Groom has won 8 of 31 starts.

Martin fined in music flap

The Belmont Park stewards suspended trainer Jose Martin for 15 days and fined him $2,000 for failing to run his horse, Starduster, in Sunday's second race, necessitating a late scratch. If Martin does not appeal, the suspension is scheduled to start Thursday.

Baker prepares five possible Oaks starters

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The more, the merrier.

Or so might say trainer Reade Baker, when it comes to the June 12 running of the $500,000 Labatt Woodbine Oaks.

After Bosskiri's romp in Saturday's $125,000 Lady Angela, a seven-furlong race for Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies, Baker could have up to five starters in the 1 1/8-mile Oaks, which is this country's premier race for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies.

Monmouth: Toll Taker tops two rivals

Toll Taker, the odds-on choice in a field of just three fillies, defeated Pleasant Lyrics in the Grade 3, $150,000 at Monmouth Park. Ruby Martini, the third starter, finished nearly 18 lengths behind the top two.

Toll Taker started as the 7-10 favorite when the Boiling Springs was taken off the turf and run on the main track. With Aaron Gryder aboard, Toll Taker took the lead from the start and held it until midstretch of the 1 1/16-mile race. Pleasant Lyrics and John Velazquez went past Toll Taker, but Toll Taker came back to win by neck.

Ecclesiastic wins first stakes in Jaipur

Ecclesiastic ended a career's worth of frustration by outfinishing favored Old Forester to win Sunday's Grade 3, $111,600 by a head at Belmont Park. Old Forester held second, two lengths ahead of Gulch Approval.

It was the first stakes win and just the third win overall for Ecclesiastic, a 4-year-old son of Pulpit owned and bred by Joe Allen. Ecclesiastic broke a 10-race losing streak and recorded his first win in nine tries on turf.

Kresgeville upsets Manhattan Beach at 30-1

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - The Arizona invader Kresgeville pulled an upset in Sunday's $94,350 , giving jockey Jocelyne Kenny-Martin her first stakes win in her first ride at Hollywood Park.

Kenny-Martin rides regularly on the Turf Paradise-Yavapai circuit.

Kresgeville ($62.60) disputed the lead throughout 5 1/2 furlongs on turf and held off 7-2 favorite Brooke's Halo to win by a nose. Trained by Bradley Rollins for Sandra Hal, Kresgeville was timed in 1:03.17.

Private Banking rallied from last in the field of 11 3-year-old fillies to finish third.
