Queenledo didn't need break after all

AUBURN, Wash. - After Queenledo posted her third straight impressive stakes score in the one-mile Irish Day Handicap on June 12, trainer Tim McCanna said he was inclined to give her a break and skip this Sunday's $60,000 Kent Handicap at 1 1/16 miles. In the interim, however, Queenledo has convinced her trainer that she has no need for a rest.

Bound to Be M V P's potential wows trainer

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - With good reason, trainer Brian Giesbrecht is very high on Bound to Be M V P. A 2-year-old Washington-bred, Bound to Be M V P figures to be a short-priced favorite in the Ladnesian Stakes at Hastings on Sunday.

"I think he's the best horse I've ever been around," said Giesbrecht.

That's high praise, considering Giesbrecht was the assistant trainer in 2002 and the head trainer in 2003 for Elana d'Amour. She was the local horse of the year in 2002, won the Grade 3 Breeders' Cup B.C. Oaks, and retired with earnings of more than $300,000.

Solving surface problems not easy

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The rumor mill has been working overtime here recently, and Chris Evans, Woodbine's vice president of Thoroughbred racing, would like to set the record straight regarding the future of the main track.

Don't Get Mad a Churchill specialist? We'll see

Don't Get Mad always has had something to prove. First, he raced in the shadow of his stablemate, champion Declan's Moon. He then had to prove he was more than a late-running sprinter, a notion he erased with a victory in the Northern Dancer Stakes at Churchill Downs following his fourth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby.
