Seguidilla's continued high-performance level makes her the horse to beat and likely favorite in Saturday's $30,000 feature at the Bay Meadows Fair, a 7 1/2-furlong entry-level allowance on turf for fillies and mares. Six were entered for the race, the fourth on an 11-race card.

Retama: Hello Lucky class of Lakeway

Hello Lucky was second to arguably the quickest 3-year-old filly in northern California in May, and for her first start since then, she turns up at Retama for the $40,000 Lakeway Stakes.

The Lakeway will be run at six furlongs and drew a field of 10 3-year-old fillies.

Hello Lucky was purchased after the $55,000 Vallejo at Golden Gate on May 29, a race in which she finished four lengths behind the winner, Lunachick, who ran the six furlongs in 1:08.40.

Remington: State's best faces eight

Put the words Oklahoma-bred and sprinter together, and in some circles it would be pronounced Medium Rare. For years he has been one of the state's best sprinters, and on Saturday night he will attempt to win his eighth career stakes in the $40,000 Silver Goblin at Remington Park.

Medium Rare's task will not be easy. A 6 1/2-furlong race for Oklahoma-breds, the Silver Goblin has drawn a contentious group of nine, including Zee Oh Six, recent stakes winner Herecomesthemannow, and Notable Okie, who is trained by Donnie Von Hemel.

Prairie Meadows: 'Liz' off layoff

Chicago invader Liz on Polk Street goes after her first stakes score when she faces eight rivals, including an entry, in the $40,000 Iowa State Fair Stakes at Prairie Meadows.

Liz on Polk Street is one of five who look to have a big chance of taking down the top prize in the six-furlong State Fair.

Liz on Polk Street enters the State Fair off a two-month layoff for trainer Wayne Catalano, who wins with 35 percent of his starters returning from similar layoffs.

Great Lakes: Maxie Match streaking

Maxie Match will try to make it four in a row when she faces seven 3-year-old Michigan-bred fillies in the $50,000 Ann Arbor Stakes at Great Lakes Downs. The Ann Arbor will be contested at a mile over this five-furlong track.

Maxie Match, out of the money only once, won the $50,000 Plymouth Stakes on July 16. Trained by Dave Kueffner, Maxie Match followed that win with an allowance tally over older rivals two weeks later. Jose Delgado, who rode her in both of those races, will be in from Thistledown for the mount. The pair will break from post 2.

Columbus: 'Chasin' stretches out

Chasin the Wind seeks his second straight stakes victory in the $10,000 Van Berg Derby, a mile and 70-yard race at Columbus that will have a field of six.

Trained by Chuck Wiley, Chasin the Wind collected his first stakes victory, and fourth win of the year, when he captured the six-furlong Hall of Fame Handicap here Aug. 6. He has proven capable at a mile, missing by a nose to The Straw Man in the State Fair Derby on June 25. Wiley will break from post 5 under jockey R.D. Williams.

Franks is Voodoo Gold's race to lose

Voodoo Gold, winner of the $100,000 D. S. "Shine" Young Futurity on July 30, should rule a prohibitive favorite in Saturday night's $75,000 John Franks Memorial Sales Stakes at Evangeline. A five-furlong race, the Franks is for horses who were consigned to the 2005 Evangeline Downs 2-year-olds in training sale and is leg two of the Evangeline stakes series for 2-year-olds. The Lafayette Stakes completes the series and is scheduled for Sept. 5.

Southwest, Rebel get purse boost

On the heels of hosting Smarty Jones and then Afleet Alex the last two winters, Oaklawn Park will put further emphasis on its 3-year-old program in 2006 by boosting the purses for the Rebel and Southwest stakes.

They are part of a 27-race, $4.5 million stakes schedule at the track, which will run 56 days next year, from Jan. 20 through April 15.

Colonial to buy management firm

Colonial Downs has reached a deal to purchase a company owned by Magna Entertainment Corp. that had managed live meets at the Virginia racetrack, Colonial and Magna announced Thursday.

Colonial Downs, owned by Jacobs Entertainment Inc., will pay $7 million in cash and issue a $3 million one-year note to Magna for the company, Maryland-Virginia Racing Circuit Inc., which had operated Colonial's race meets since the track opened in 1996.

Career Oriented gets class test

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Career Oriented hasn't missed a beat this summer at Monmouth Park.

She has won all three starts here, marching smartly through her allowance conditions for trainer Joe Orseno.

Now comes the next step - a stakes race.

, a winner of 4 of 5 starts, takes the plunge in the $60,000 Miss Woodford for 3-year-old fillies Saturday at six furlongs.

"This seems like the next logical spot after the great meet she's having here," Orseno said. "We've been planning for this one since her last allowance race."

This will be a stiffer test.
