Fairmount: Beabasque wires

Six-year-old Beabasque, trained by Steve Manley, galloped to a five-length, wire-to-wire upset over favored Ask the Lord in the $50,000 Circle C Classic at Fairmount Park. Beabasque covered the 1 1/8 miles in 1:51 and paid $5.40 to win over a fast track. Little More was third, with He's Souper last in the field of four.

Prairie Meadows: 'Premium' romps

Premium Saltine ($3) drew off through the stretch to score an easy 5 3/4-length victory over Two Down Automatic in the $50,000 Prairie Meadows Sprint Stakes.

Premium Saltine, under jockey Glenn Corbett, stopped the clock in 1:09.26 for the six furlongs. Tom Amoss trains Premium Saltine a 6-year-old gelded son of Salt Lake.

Canterbury Park: Scooter Roach best

Scooter Roach prevailed over seven rivals in the $75,000 John Bullit Stakes at Canterbury Park.

The top five finishers were necks apart at the furlong pole of the 1 1/16-mile turf race. The even-money favorite, Scooter Roach turned back the bid of Dontbotherknocking to prevail by a head. Wally's Choice finished third, another 1 1/2 lengths behind.

Scooter Roach ($4), ridden by Jesse Campbell for trainer David Kassen, completed the 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.52 over firm going.

Jambalaya steals some thunder

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Jambalaya may not be quite ready to assume the mantle of stable star in the Catherine Day Phillips barn, thanks to the presence of a rather illustrious barnmate named A Bit O'Gold.

But at least Jambalaya has earned the right to be mentioned in the same breath as A Bit O'Gold, now that he followed that one's example by romping to an eight-length victory in Sunday's $501,600 at Woodbine.

Turf-loving gelding goes long

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Apprentices will be in the spotlight in Wednesday's Woodbine headliner, a 1 1/16-mile first-level allowance on the grass headed by Young Apprentice.

Young Apprentice, to be ridden by an apprentice, leading rider Emma Wilson, has missed the board only once in seven turf starts, dating back to last winter at the Fair Grounds, where he graduated going long in late March.

Alexandersrun best in Seattle Slew BC Handicap

AUBURN, Wash. - Alexandersrun came from just off the pace to score a neck victory over the fast-finishing Confidential Call in Sunday's $60,625 Seattle Slew Breeders' Cup Handicap for 3-year-olds at Emerald Downs.

Under Ricky Frazier, who was winning for the first time since having his mouth stepped on by a horse in a spill just a week earlier, Alexandersrun prevailed in 1:41.60 for 1 1/16 miles and paid $6.00 to win as the favorite in a field of 11.

Cause to Believe flies home in Cavonnier

SANTA ROSA, Calif. - Cause to Believe ($2.80), who seemed beaten as he faded on the turn, unleashed a scintillating late rally to win the Cavonnier Juvenile Stakes on Sunday at the Sonoma County Fair.

Cause to Believe was fourth trailing by four at the eighth pole and won the race by two lengths over Fast Parade, winning the 5+-furlong (five one-half) race in 1:03.76 while running his final 16th in 5.70 seconds.

Tucked Away upsets Clement Hirsch Handicap

DEL MAR, Calif. - Tucked Away, who has spent most of her career racing in state-bred stakes, won the most prestigious event of her 29-race career in Sunday's $300,000 at Del Mar.

Tucked Away ($40.40) rallied from sixth to finish a nose in front of Hollywood Story, the 5-2 favorite. Valentine Dancer finished third in the field of eight fillies and mares.

Ridden by Alex Solis, Tucked Away finished 1 1/16 miles in 1:42.82.

The Grade 2 Hirsch was Tucked Away's first win outside of state-bred company.

Ay Caramba takes Oceanport Stakes

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Ay Caramba, confidently ridden by Gary Stevens, edged away to win the $150,000 on the Haskell Day undercard

The Oceanport and the Taylor Made Matchmaker Stakes, won by longshot Love Match, were the two Grade 3, $150,000 featured turf events on the 14-race card.

Ay Caramba ($10.20) had already secured a place in history as Pat Day's last winning mount. The 5-year-old extended his winning streak to three in the Oceanport.

Roman Ruler gives Baffert third Haskell

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Bob Baffert continued his domination of the Grade 1, $1 million as Roman Ruler outdueled Sun King by 1 1/4 lengths on Sunday to win the premier event at Monmouth Park.

On a muggy afternoon on the Jersey Shore before 43,769, Baffert got his third win in the last five renewals of the 1 1/8 miles race for 3-year-olds.

The third win gave Baffert a share of the stakes record for training victories with Hall of Famers Jimmy Croll and Sonny Hine.

Baffert won with Point Given in 2001 and War Emblem in 2002.
