Silverfoot completes stakes triple for Bejarano

Silverfoot and Rafael Bejarano win the $200,000 Kentucky Cup Turf on Saturday.

FRANKLIN, Ky. - Jockey Rafael Bejarano owned the Kentucky Downs turf course in 2004, winning with 12 of 35 mounts, easily the best meet by a jockey in the track's history. Saturday, riding on Kentucky Cup Turf Festival Day, Bejarano showed he had lost none of his winning touch, winning three of the track's four stakes, including the featured $200,000 aboard Silverfoot.

Lorenzon best in Premier Stakes

Speed horses fared best on Friday's inaugural program of racing at Zia Park in Hobbs, N.M., including Lorenzon, who led throughout to win the track's $50,000 .

In total, five of the six Thoroughbred races on the card were won by front-runners, with all of the Thoroughbred races held around one turn. The remaining five races on the opening program were for Quarter Horses.

Full field possible for derby

ANDERSON, Ind. - A full field of 12, topped by Don't Get Mad and Scrappy T, is possible for the Grade 2, $500,000-added Indiana Derby at Hoosier Park next Saturday night.

The derby and the preceding night's Grade 3, $400,000-added Indiana Breeders' Cup Oaks are the showcase events of the Hoosier Park meet. Both races are at 1 1/16 miles over Hoosier's seven-furlong track.

No Reason tries to stay out of trouble

ELMONT, N.Y. - No Reason had several reasons why she finished fifth as the even-money favorite in last month's Lady Finger Stakes at Finger Lakes. Her connections hope they won't be searching for any reasons for defeat Sunday when No Reason returns in the $100,000 Joseph A. Gimma Stakes at Belmont Park.

Parkhimonbroadway steps up

ELMONT, N.Y. - Trainer Mike Hushion wasn't surprised that Parkhimonbroadway won his maiden by 10 1/2 lengths. He was just surprised that it took him three starts to do it.

Now that Parkhimonbroadway has figured things out, he takes the next step into stakes company in Sunday's $100,000 Bertram F. Bongard Stakes for New York-bred juvenile colts and geldings. The Bongard, run at seven furlongs, drew a field of six.

'Anziyan' facing softer in Hinds

POMONA, Calif. - Expectations are usually high for Anziyan Royalty, the 5-year-old who will be favored to win the $100,000 Ralph M. Hinds Handicap on Sunday at Fairplex Park.

A field of nine entered the 1 1/8-mile Hinds, the centerpiece of the Los Angeles County Fair race meet that ends Monday. It is one of the last opportunities for Anziyan Royalty to run over a track he likes, against competition he should beat.

King Robyn makes his return

King Robyn runs in Sunday's Governor's Cup, his first start since May 2004.

POMONA, Calif. - King Robyn, the only horse to win stakes at the six Southern California race meets in one season, will try to write another chapter to his exceptional career Sunday at Fairplex Park.

King Robyn runs Sunday in the $60,000 Governor's Cup, his first start since May 29, 2004. He did not land an easy comeback spot, but he has always been up to a challenge.

"He's one of those horses that loves to run and loves to win," trainer Jeff Mullins said. "Up to this point he's training like the old King Robyn, but you never know until you run them."

Lost in the Fog works faster than Gilchrist hoped

Lost in the Fog completed his preparations for next Saturday's $100,000 Bay Meadows Speed Handicap by working five furlongs in 57.20 seconds at Golden Gate Fields on Friday morning.

The workout was the best of 27 at the distance and 1.60 seconds faster than the clocking for Fame's Flame, the only other runner to work in less than one minute. Trainer Greg Gilchrist said he was disappointed that Lost in the Fog worked so fast.

Executive Time drops

EDMONTON, Alberta - Executive Time is taking a drop in class Sunday to face seven other $17,500 female claimers in a six-furlong sprint at Northlands Park.

Executive Time, trained by Floyd Arthur, is coming off second- and fourth-place finishes in $22,000 company at 6 1/2 furlongs.

Before those efforts, Executive Time had been competing at the $30,000 level, where she won a sprint July 3 for her second victory of the season. Real Simard retains the mount.

Greg Tracy is sending out 3-year-old Trompeta, who has been productive at this level.
