Pletcher unsure why Ashado ran poorly

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Trainer Todd Pletcher said he could not find an excuse for why Ashado ran so poorly in Friday's Grade 1 Personal Ensign Handicap, and intends to press on with last year's champion 3-year-old filly for a fall campaign.

Ashado finished in a dead heat for fourth with Island Sand in the Personal Ensign, 14 lengths behind upset winner Shadow Cast. It was only the second time in 19 career starts that Ashado finished worse than third. Her previous largest margin of defeat was four lengths in the Grade 1 Frizette in 2003.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - Fifteen Rounds had post 1 on Saturday in the Arlington Sprint Handicap, and nobody in his camp, Fifteen Rounds included, was happy about it.

"I didn't like it, he didn't like it," said jockey Chris Emigh.

But Fifteen Rounds is so good right now, so strong, that he won anyway, edging out the longest shot in the field, Elusive Jazz, by a neck while running six furlongs in a stakes-record 1:08.51.

The Incredible Revenge for fillies and mares at five furlongs was originally slated for the turf, but was shifted to the main track prior to entries being taken in an effort to preserve the course until its scheduled closing after Labor Day.

Delaware: Holy Ground romps

My Trusty Cat takes another crack

Forest Music, with John Velazquez, is a question mark at seven furlongs.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - has since become a Grade 1 winner, but the memory of her head loss to Lady Tak in last year's Ballerina Handicap still resonates for trainer David Vance.

"She had a tough trip," Vance said Friday from Monmouth Park. "She had a horse laying on her turning for home. She finally got away from her and came up between horses and just didn't get there. She got bounced around a little bit. There was a 10-minute inquiry, but they didn't do anything. We're coming to try again."
