Star Parade, winning the Hawthorne Handicap on May 7, will start in Sunday's Clement Hirsch Handicap.

DEL MAR, Calif. - The eventful, curious career of New Joysey Jeff came to a sudden, tragic, and ugly ending Monday morning at Del Mar during a workout on turf, when the 3-year-old stakes-class colt suffered multiple fractures in his left front leg that necessitated his euthanization soon after.

According to an official veterinarian report filed with the California Horse Racing Board by New Joysey Jeff's attending veterinarian, Dr. Ted Simpson, New Joysey Jeff had a "displaced and compound fracture" to his left front cannon bone and had fractures in that leg's sesamoid bones.

Court Folly ($22), Calvin Borel up, wins Monday's $150,000 Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga by 1 1/2 lengths.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Four-horse fields are rarely conducive to come-from-behind horses like Court Folly. A torrid pace, though, played right into hands of the late-running longshot, who ran down 1-10 favorite Songster en route to a shocking 1 1/2-length victory in Monday's $150,000 at Saratoga.

Prairie Meadows: 'Wayzata' gets up

Wayzata Bay ($15.80) saved ground to the stretch and rallied to collar the pacesetters in the final strides to score a half-length victory in the $75,000 Prairie Meadows Handicap.

Jockey Carlos Montalvo rated Wayzata Bay in sixth position in the seven-horse field, as No Tolerance ran an opening half-mile in 47.53 seconds. Go four deep to start pick 7

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - A pick seven carryover of $20,120 will spice up an otherwise dreary eight-race card on Wednesday evening at Woodbine.

The first leg of the pick seven is the featured second race, a nine-furlong Ontario-sired grass allowance for fillies and mares. It can probably be pared down to four contenders, including Ifbutmaybewhen.

Praying for Cash can end local slump in Haskell

Praying for Cash (right), winning the Long Branch, is 3 for 4 at Monmouth.

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Three of the five winners of the Haskell Invitational from 1992-96 were based at Monmouth Park. The late Sonny Hine saddled Technology and Skip Away, the 1992 and 1996 winners, and Jimmy Croll was owner and trainer of Holy Bull, the 1994 winner.

Since then, local horses have been shut out.

Praying for Cash, Awfully Smart, and Electrify will try to change that Sunday, when their trainers - Kelly Breen, Alan Goldberg, and Eddie Plesa Jr., respectively - make their Haskell debuts.

"This is our Kentucky Derby," said Breen.

Like a Gem cools off after her 48-1 upset of the Wonder Where Saturday.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - It would be an understatement to say the past week has been bittersweet for Woodbine-based trainer Danny Vella.

Last Saturday, the Vella-trained Like a Gem registered a major upset in the $252,800 Wonder Where Stakes. But just two days earlier, Knights Templar, Canada's 2-year-old filly champion under Vella's handling last season, had to be euthanized following a battle with lymphoma, a form of cancer.
