Louisiana Downs: Carolina Sky does it again

Carolina Sky continued her love affair with the turf course at Louisiana Downs, as she won for the fourth time this meeting in capturing the $100,000 River Cities Breeders' Cup. Candy Ball challenged the winner turning into the straight of the 1 1/16-mile race for fillies and mares but had to settle for second, followed by More than Promised and Space Cruise.

Delaware: Misto Quente wins three-way photo

Misto Quente could not have had a more fortuitous finish in the $100,000 Kelso at Delaware Park, catching the pacesetting Angelic Aura by a head in the final jump while simultaneously holding off the fast-closing We Can Seek by a head and a nose.

Auguri, the even-money favorite, pressed the pace for a half-mile in the 1 3/16-mile race, then dropped back and finished last in the field of six.

Misto Quente, coming off a second-place finish behind Auguri in his previous start, went off as the fourth choice in the betting and paid $15.80.

Drums of Thunder taking a class drop

MIAMI - After battling local leaders Straight Faced and Villainage in the opening legs of the Florida Stallion Stakes, Drums of Thunder will get some much-needed class relief he returns to the allowance ranks for Monday's $30,000 main event at Calder.

Weather permitting, Drums of Thunder will also get a surface change on Monday, with the entry level allowance race scheduled for five furlongs on the turf.

The Tin Man wires Hirsch

ARCADIA, Calif. - The Tin Man stretched his winning streak to three in Saturday's $250,000 at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting, confirming his status as one of the best American hopes for the Breeders' Cup Turf at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4.

The Tin Man was tested in deep stretch by T.H. Approval, whose stretch-long rally fell short by a head. Artiste Royale finished third in the field of six.

The Tin Man ($3) ran 1 1/4 miles on turf in 2:00.12. Ridden by Victor Espinoza, The Tin Man led throughout, displaying his customary style.

It's No Joke: A Gold Cup upset

STICKNEY, Ill. - Who knows what It's No Joke would have done had trainer Becky Maker chosen to start the horse Saturday in the Kentucky Cup Classic at Turfway Park. What he did in the on Saturday was win it, beating heavily favored A. P. Arrow by one length, and giving both Maker and jockey Eddie Razo the biggest win of their careers.

Maker entered It's No Joke on Wednesday in the Turfway race, and on Thursday in Hawthorne's, but it wasn't until Friday that she decided which way she'd go - Chi-town.

Caradak takes Foret by short neck

PARIS - Without a runner in Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Godolphin made amends to a certain degree by winning both the Group 1 Prix de la Foret with Caradak and the Group 2 Prix Daniel Wildenstein with Echo of Light on Saturday as Longchamp kicked off its big Arc weekend.

A 5-year-old son of Desert Style, Caradak emerged form his short-neck score in the seven-furlong $320,000 Foret as a Breeders' Cup Mile possible, although Librettist remains the first Godolphin choice for the race.
