Miss Me Not looks right in feature

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Saturday's feature race at Hastings, an allowance race for 3-year-old fillies who haven't won a stakes in 2006, was written with a horse like Miss Me Not in mind. A stakes winner as a 2-year-old, Miss Me Not is as honest as they come but hasn't been up to beating the top females at Hastings this year. The 1 1/16-mile feature drew 10 horses and will go as the seventh race.

Prospective Saint has sprint speed

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Horseplayers analyzing Saturday's Very Subtle Stakes on the Breeders' Cup undercard at Churchill Downs might feel as if they have seen the race before.

Five of the 14 entrants in the six-furlong, $200,000 race were also entered in Thursday's one-mile Chilukki Stakes at Churchill Downs. With both races being run around one turn for fillies and mares, the connections of these five - Indian Flare, Joint Effort, Prospective Saint, Trippi Street, and Humorous Gal - entered both spots and weighed their options.

FDD Dynasty should improve off last

The four-month vacation that FDD Dynasty had during the summer and fall makes him a rested horse for Saturday's $1,223,800 Golden State Million Futurity for Quarter Horses at Los Alamitos.

With his win in the Ed Burke Million Futurity in July, FDD Dynasty remains eligible for a $1 million bonus if he wins the Golden State Million and the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity in December.

Imahoneytoo stretches out

Imahoneytoo is the one to beat when she faces eight other Ohio-bred fillies and mares in the $50,000 Bobbie Bricker Memorial Handicap at Beulah Park.

Imahoneytoo stretches back out around two turns in the 1 1/16-mile Bricker after closing to finish third, beaten three lengths by course specialist Just Michel, in the six-furlong Scarlet and Gray Handicap at Beulah two weeks ago.

Two starts back, Imahoneytoo tracked the pace to the stretch before rallying to score a 2o1/4-length victory in the $100,000 Best of Ohio Distaff going 1 1/8 miles at Thistledown.

New challenge for Open Meadows

Open Meadows is a triple threat, with stakes wins around one turn and two, on dirt and on turf. But there is one area where her resume could be expanded, and she can tend to that detail on Saturday in the $50,000 Ada at Remington Park.

"She's not a stakes winner against open company yet," said Jack Bruner, who trains Open Meadows for Tom Durant.

Sorokolit entry double trouble

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The Bill Sorokolit-owned entry of Anna's Ballerina and Kain's Charm are both possibilities in Friday's Woodbine feature, a competitive 6 1/2-furlong allowance for fillies and mares.

It took Anna's Ballerina 11 starts to win her maiden, which is not all that surprising, since she is out of the late-blooming turf stakes winner, Ballerina Queen. She graduated going 6 1/2 furlongs on the Polytrack Oct. 21, earning a respectable 83 Beyer Speed Figure.

Add racing to New Orleans recovery

NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans took another step toward recovery Tuesday when Fair Grounds Race Course opened up its backstretch to horses for the first time since Hurricane Katrina devastated the city on Aug. 29, 2005. As a small army of construction workers busily finished up repairs and tractors harrowed the racing surface, the first van-loads of horses shipping in from Keeneland settled into their refurbished stalls.

Rain and cold dampen a.m. works

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Wednesday provided a golden opportunity to see many of this year's Breeders' Cup starters for the first time since their arrival at Churchill Downs. Unfortunately, overnight rain that continued throughout the morning made training conditions less than ideal, although the turf course was open for business with the dogs set out past the middle of the course.

Most of the Europeans have cleared quarantine and either cantered or galloped over the turf and dirt. Only two horses had recorded works, both at three furlongs over the sloppy main track.

Atticus Kristy back on favorite course

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Atticus Kristy barely made it out of a gallop in his last race, but trainer Merrill Scherer is not discouraged. By returning to his favorite surface, the turf course at Churchill Downs, Atticus Kristy is eligible to rebound in a big way Friday, when he is part of an exceptionally deep field of turf-sprint specialists in the $250,000 Cherokee Run Stakes.

Javier Castellano rode Atticus Kristy when he finished sixth in his last start, the Oct. 22 Nearctic at Woodbine, and Castellano rides him again on Friday.
