Dilemma wins Sunny Slope

ARCADIA, Calif. - Dilemma won his stakes debut in Sunday's $69,420 Sunny Slope Stakes at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting, rallying along the rail to win by 2 1/4 lengths in the sprint for 2-year-olds.

Dilemma ($5.20) ran six furlongs in 1:09.69 under jockey Alex Solis. Pacesetter Caped for Flight held second, four lengths in front of Prime Ruler in the field of six.

Owned by Glen Hill Farm and trained by Paddy Gallagher, Dilemma has won two of four starts and $85,252. He beat maidens at Del Mar in September.

Collier Hill captures Canadian International

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - World traveler Collier Hill fended off New York invader Go Deputy in the final strides to capture the Grade 1, $2 million Canadian International at Woodbine Sunday.

Collier Hill, an 8-year-old gelding based in England, raced in second throughout most of the mile and a half grass race, as Last Answer set fractions of :26.86, :52.95 and 1:19.06 over a very soft course.

Louve Royale ekes out Dowager win

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Getting the kind of well-timed ride that is quicky becoming the hallmark of 24-year-old jockey Julien Leparoux, favored Louve Royale was along for a narrow victory Sunday in the $150,000 Dowager Stakes at Keeneland.

Jose Ferrer suspended at Hawthorne

CHICAGO - Jose Ferrer, the second-leading jockey at the current Hawthorne meet, has been suspended 30 days by Hawthorne stewards, who allege Ferrer failed to do his best to win the fifth race Saturday while riding Burke's Legend.

Ferrer took off his mounts Sunday, though the suspension does not take effect until Friday, Oct. 27. Oscar Sanchez, Ferrer's agent, said Ferrer proclaimed his innocence and would appeal the ruling as soon as possible.

"He didn't do anything wrong," Sanchez said.

Pick six carryover at $145,580

ARCADIA, Calif. - An upset win by 30-1 Swiss Diva in Saturday’s 10th race has led to a carryover of $145,580 for Sunday’s nine-race program at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting.

The pick six on Sunday covers the fourth through ninth races, a sequence that begins and ends with routes on turf, and includes a starter allowance for 2-year-old fillies, a maiden race for 2-year-old fillies, a claiming race for sprinters and the Pine Tree Lane Stakes for female sprinters.

There were few changes for Sunday as of Saturday’s scratch time.

Symphony Sid wins Carleton Burke

ARCADIA, Calif. - Symphony Sid stole the $100,000 at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting.

Winning his first graded stakes, Symphony Sid took the lead from the start, led by as many as 10 lengths and kept going in the final half-mile, winning by 5 1-2 lengths over Artiste Royal, the 4-5 favorite.

Symphony Sid ($12.80) ran 1 1-2 miles on turf in 2:24.18 in the Grade 3 Burke.

Mohawk: Certifiably Crazy scores

ELMONT, N.Y. –Certifiably Crazy may have clinched his second consecutive New York-bred male turf championship by running past Retribution in midstretch and holding off Classic Fran at the wire to take the $150,000 by a neck.

Classic Fran, making his first start since June, got second by a neck over Continental Reins. Retribution, who beat Certifiably Crazy in the Ashley T. Cole Handicap, lost by 1 1/4 lengths after setting demanding fractions.

Hudson: Gold and Roses beats Sharp Humor

ELMONT, N.Y. - Gold and Roses may not be the most recognizable New York-bred sprinter in training, but he's certainly the most consistent.

Under Garrett Gomez, Gold and Roses outfinished graded-stakes winner Sharp Humor to win the $125,000 by a neck on New York Showcase Day at Belmont Park. Sharp Humor, who dueled with Introspect, finished second by three-quarters of a length over Papua.

It was the fourth victory from 10 starts this year for Gold and Roses, a 4-year-old gelded son of Gold Token owned by Henry Gregory and trained by Tom Bush.

Ticonderoga: Finlandia nips Sabellina

ELMONT, N.Y. – Bush won his second consecutive stakes race when Finlandia ran down the game Sabellina to take the $150,000 for fillies and mares by a head. It was 4o1/2 lengths back to Rahys' Appeal, also trained by Bush.

It was the second win from six starts this year for Finlandia, who two starts back won the Yaddo Handicap at Saratoga.

Wild Gams executes trainer's game plan

Jockey Ryan Fogelsonger carefully followed the instructions trainer Ben Perkins Jr. gave him before riding Wild Gams for the first time. As a result, Wild Gams turned the tables on heavily favored Wildcat Bettie B, snapping her rival's three-stakes winning streak.

Perfectly positioned behind a three-way pace battle turning for home, Wild Gams ($14) closed strongly, ran down G City Gal inside the sixteenth pole, and held off Wildcat Bettie B by three-quarters of a length in Saturday's Grade 3, $200,000 for 3-year-old fillies at Laurel Park.
