ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - Arlington stewards issued a 30-day suspension Monday against jockey Jamie Theriot for his role in a spill during the Arlington Matron, race 9 here Saturday.
Miranda Diane turned in another big performance at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Okla., on Saturday, when she drew out to an 8 1/2-length win in the $55,250 Classic. It was the fourth consecutive win for the filly, and she covered the six furlongs for Oklahoma-bred fillies and mares in a sharp 1:08.66.
Shane Seaton, who trains Miranda Diane, said she will be considered for a start in the $100,000 Saylorville for fillies and mares at six furlongs at Prairie Meadows on June 26.
Hydrostatic ($11.40) stormed to a 1 1/2-length win over Vodka With Ice in the Grade 2, $89,190 East Championship Challenge for Quarter Horses at Delta Downs in Vinton, La., on Saturday night. J.R. Ramirez rode the winner for owner-trainer Tristan Guadalupe. Hydrostatic covered the 440 yards in 21.64 seconds.
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill. - Wildeydsouthernboy did nothing in the Zen Stakes on Sunday at Arlington Park to contradict the notion that he's currently one of the top Illinois-breds going. Forced closer to the lead than usual by a slow early pace, Wildeydsouthernboy still scored a 2 3/4-length victory over veteran Fort Prado in the $53,600 Zen.
"He's a pretty nice horse," said understated trainer Hugh Robertson.
Concordes Saint took the lead at the start then held off Ax Me Nice for a neck win in the $50,000 Norgor Derby at Ruidoso Downs on Sunday. The six-furlong race was the first Thoroughbred stakes of the meet. It was another neck back in third to favorite Dos and Donts.
Concordes Saint ($17.60) set fractions of 22 seconds for the opening quarter and 44.70 for the half-mile before winning in a time of 1:12. Martin Bourdieu rode the winner for Howard Petersen and trainer Henry Dominguez.
ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Sterwins nailed favored Rahy's Attorney on the wire to capture the Grade 3, $173,300 Connaught Cup Stakes at Woodbine Sunday.
Sterwins shattered the course record in the 1 1/16-mile route, covering the distance in 1:38.99, which was .21 of a second faster than the previous record set by Jet Freighter in 1995.
Kid Rambo won his maiden in the $23,450 Inaugural Stakes at Arapahoe Park in Aurora, Colo., on Sunday, when he dueled on the lead and went on to a 2 1/2-length win. Royal Orchard finished second in the first Thoroughbred stakes of the meet, while it was another three-quarters of a length back in third to Major Big Time.
Kid Rambo ($23.40) covered the six furlongs for 3-year-olds in 1:11.90. John Rochabrun was aboard for trainer Temple D. Rushton. Kid Rambo races for Ted Simendinger and Richard Bellis.
INGLEWOOD, Calif.-Charlie's Moment needed 12 races to win his first graded stakes in Sunday's $100,000 Laz Barrera Memorial Stakes at Hollywood Park.
Trainer Walther Solis is ready to attempt another milestone with the 3-year-old gelding next month. Solis said that the Grade 3 Barrera was a prep for the $100,000 Affirmed Handicap, a Grade 3 over 1 1/16 miles here on June 20. He is hoping that Charlie's Moment can run well enough to justify a start in the $300,000 Swaps Stakes on July 18.
Money Card had little difficulty making it back-to-back wins in the $55,000 Dr. Theodore F. Classen Memorial Stakes at Thistledown, taking command entering the stretch and widening to a four-length win over her nine Ohio-bred filly and mare rivals Saturday.
Coax Me Heidi rallied from well of the pace to finish second in the six-furlong race, a half-length before Indian Ink.
Money Card is owned by the Drake Racing Stable, trained by Shirley Girten-Drake and was ridden by Jane Magrell. She got the six furlongs in l:12.28 and returned a $5 as the favorite.
OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Racing was canceled midway through Sunday's
11-race Quarter Horse card at Remington Park when the track lights
malfunctioned. The sixth race had just crossed the finish line when the
area in front of the grandstand went dark. Entrants for the seventh
race were delayed in the paddock for approximately 30 minutes past
their post time before they were sent home after the situation was
deemed irreparable for the evening.
Racing on Monday's Memorial Day card has a special post time of 1:30
p.m.
