Miss World wins three in a row in Garden City

Miss World runs by Shared Account to win the Grade 1 Garden City at Belmont Park.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Trainer Christophe Clement readily admits it took him too long to figure out what Miss World really wanted to do. But since Clement came to the realization that the 3-year-old filly wants to go long on turf, it didn't take Miss World long to become a Grade 1 winner.

Flashing a strong of turn of foot in the stretch and taking advantage of a horrendous start by the odds-on favorite, Gozzip Girl, Miss World powered home to a 1 3/4-length victory in Saturday's at Belmont Park.

Barn quarantined at Hoosier Park

A barn housing 59 horses at Hoosier Park has been quarantined after one of the horses stabled in it showed symptoms normally associated with the contagious bacterial disease strangles.

Test results from the ill horse are expected back within three days. If the results are positive for strangles, all horses located in the quarantined barn will be required to undergo mandatory testing for the disease.

Talkin About Love gets up in slop

Talkin About Love rallied from off the pace to score her first win of the year in the Revidere Stakes at Monmouth Park.

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Talkin About Love roared through the slop to capture the off-the-turf $70,000 Revidere Stakes for fillies and mares Saturday at Monmouth Park.

A 5-year-old owned, bred, and trained by Kevin Sleeter, Talkin About Love ($8.40) earned her first win of the season in six tries and only her second win in the last 15 races.

The New Jersey-bred winner of the Grade 3 Monmouth Oaks in 2007, Talkin About Love had launched strong rallies in her last four but could do no better than a trio of seconds and a third.

Nite Light wires Fall Championship

Nite Lite was an easy front-running winner of the 1 1/2-mile Turfway Fall Championship.

Nite Light led through all three turns and all 12 furlongs when posting an easy victory Saturday in the 60th running of the .

Ridden by Jon Court, Nite Light broke sharpest in the field of six older horses and was never seriously threatened thereafter in earning a ticket to the Breeders' Cup. The 1 1/2-mile Fall Championship, run over Polytrack at the Florence, Ky., track, is a Win and You're In event toward the $500,000 BC Marathon on Nov. 7 at Santa Anita.

Double Malt scores in La Prevoyante

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Double Malt ($3.60) won her third consecutive stakes for Ontario-sired 3-year-old fillies Saturday at Woodbine in the .

Double Malt rallied from four lengths off a lively pace set by Koonunga Hill, who got fractions of 22.64 seconds and 45.53 in the one-mile turf race. Double Malt came down the center of the course in the stretch and prevailed by a neck over Lunar Linda.

Venganza finished another half-length back in third, and Moonlight Beauty was fourth in the 10-horse field.

Eurico Rosa Da Silva rode Double Malt for trainer Malcolm Pierce.

Swift Temper clear in Ruffian

ELMONT, N.Y. - Swift Temper liked running back on short rest a lot more than her trainer, Dale Romans, did.

Thirteen days after getting beat 13 1/2 lengths by Icon Project in the Grade 1 Personal Ensign at Saratoga, Swift Temper ran away from 1-4 favorite Seventh Street inside the final furlong to win Saturday's by 1 3/4 lengths at muddy Belmont Park. Seventh Street finished second by 8 3/4 lengths over Luna Vega. Skylighter, Be Fair, and Exotic Indy completed the order of finish.

Greeley's Conquest eyes Phoenix

Greeley's Conquest is being pointed to a start in the Grade 3 Phoenix at Keeneland on Oct. 9.

Greeley's Conquest, winner of the $200,000 Remington Park Sprint Championship who was forced to miss a stakes start Sunday in New Mexico, could now be headed to Kentucky. A small bout with colic knocked him out of this past weekend's $100,000 Premiere Handicap at Zia Park, but the plan is to regroup and consider a stakes at Keeneland.

"We'll probably point for the Phoenix," said Gary Thomas, who trains Greeley's Conquest.

Delaware to cut seven days from schedule

Delaware Park announced Saturday that it would drop seven days from its current live meet because of a decline in purse subsidies from its nearly 3,000 slot machines.

Delaware Park will now conclude its meet Oct. 26, rather than the originally scheduled Nov. 7. The decline in purse subsidies is due to a drop in slot play attributed to the national economy and the state of Delaware reducing the amount of video lottery revenue earmarked for purses by 10 percent, according to a news release issued by the track.

Copper State gets win in Central Iowa

Copper State has been ambitiously spotted since joining Steve Asmussen's stable in spring 2008. She has rewarded owner Ro Parra's Millennium Farms a few times with valuable Grade 1 placings, including when second to champion Ginger Punch in Saratoga's 2008 renewal of the Go For Wand. On Friday evening, she was sent off the 4-5 favorite in the $50,000 Central Iowa Stakes in a quest to win her first stakes race against open company.

Tanika repeats in Matron

Tanika, invading from Alberta, captured the $75,000 Matron for the second consecutive year at Assiniboia Downs on Friday night.

Ridden by Alan Cuthbertson, Tanika stalked the pace while four wide in the field of six before finally catching and drawing away from a stubborn Morsel for a 3 3/4-length victory as the 3-4 choice

Morsel, one of two-3-year-olds in the field, was on the pace throughout and finished 1 1/2 lengths clear of third-place Gameshy in the 1 1/8-mile feature for fillies and mares.
