Fourth straight win keeps Freaky in top slot

Freaky emphasized his status as the nation's leading older Quarter Horse with an easy win in Saturday's $150,000 Los Alamitos Championship, his fourth consecutive victory.

A 4-year-old gelding, Freaky won the 440-yard Grade 1 race by 1 1/4 lengths over A Mere Splash. Ridden by Francisco Rubio, Freaky ($3.60) led from the start and was three-quarters of a length in front after 100 yards.

Lucky Chuck upsets Indiana Futurity

Lucky Chuck upset heavily favored Lone Star Cowboy to win the $70,000 Indiana Futurity at Hoosier Park on Sunday afternoon.

Trained by David Pate, Lucky Chuck was kept back off the quick pace by jockey Ben Creed until the turn, when the 2-year-old gelding took command and drew off to a 6 1/2-length victory over the muddy Hoosier Park oval. It was the first stakes win for Creed.

Greely won't be back at Arlington next year

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Kevin Greely will not return in 2010 as Arlington Park's vice president of racing and racing secretary, Greely confirmed Sunday at Keeneland.

Greely took the Arlington job in December 2005 after working in a similar capacity for more than 10 years in Dubai. A Kentucky native, Greely said he was grateful to Arlington for "providing an opportunity for me to repatriate to the U.S."

Shotgun Gulch tops Stormin Maggy in Gaylord

Shotgun Gulch remained undefeated in two starts when she edged Stormin Maggy by a head in the $50,000 E.L. Gaylord Memorial at Remington Park on Saturday night. It was another four lengths back in third to Right to Rule.

The stakes was one of two on the card, run on what was the eve of the $400,000 Oklahoma Derby.

In the $50,000 Flashy Lady, Classify was up for a half-length win over Magdalena's Chase.

Quiet Harbor wins first stakes in Grade 3 Violet

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. - Emerging turf star Quiet Harbor surged to victory Saturday night in the for fillies and mares at the Meadowlands.

Eighth rounding the final turn, Quiet Harbor ($23.20) angled to the far outside with Eddie Castro aboard and powered down the center of the firm course for her fourth straight win, rolling past the pacesetting Always for Love by three-quarters of a length.

Chela pulls $24 upset at Northlands

Chela, ($24) upset the $59,993 Duchess of York for fillies and mares at Northlands Park Saturday. Ridden by Rico Walcott, Chela made a strong late move while going three wide into the stretch and got up to nip Wild Intent by a neck. Tanika, who set the early pace held on to finish third.

Ochoa and Victory Romance, who made up the heavily favored Floyd Arthur-trained entry, finished fourth and last in the six horse field.

Final time for the 1 1/16 miles was 1:46.00.

Gitano Hernando shocks 'em in Goodwood

ARCADIA, Calif. - The 3-year-old colt who had never won a stakes and made his last start at one of England's smallest racecourses pulled an upset in Saturday's $305,000 Goodwood Stakes at Santa Anita.

Gitano Hernando ($38), making his first start in a Grade 1, rallied from fifth in the final quarter-mile to outfinish 5-2 favorite Colonel John. Richard's Kid, the winner of the Pacific Classic at Del Mar last month, rallied late to finish third.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Let others attend all the horse auctions they want. Trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. and his people do their best shopping at Calder.

Opting to leave the multiple graded stakes winner D' Funnybone in the barn Saturday, Dutrow was still able to capture the at Belmont Park when Homeboykris rallied past Discreetly Mine to win by 1 1/2 lengths at Belmont Park. It was another half-length back to Aspire in third. Dublin, the Hopeful winner, finished a non-threatening fifth as the 3-5 favorite.

Cowboy Cal digs deep to win Oak Tree Mile

ARCADIA, Calif. - Cowboy Cal should never leave Santa Anita.

In Saturday's $150,000 Oak Tree Mile, Cowboy Cal won his third stakes of the year at this track. In five starts at other tracks this year, he has no wins.

Better yet, Cowboy Cal's next start will be at Santa Anita on Nov. 7, likely in the Breeders' Cup Mile.
