LOUISVILLE, Ky. – They are not running the Breeders’ Cup Sprint on Saturday at Churchill Downs. It only seems that way.
LOUISVILLE, KY. – Though he had a spirited 1 1/2-mile gallop over a tight and fast Churchill Downs main track on Thursday morning, Uncle Mo’s status for Saturday’s 137th Kentucky Derby remained in limbo and a decision on whether or not he runs could be made by Thursday night or Friday morning, according to his owner, Mike Repole.
What’s Up Doc may be the fastest horses in the feature race at Northlands Park on Saturday. That doesn’t necessarily mean he will be the winner. Trained by Greg Tracy, What’s Up Doc is making his first start of the year, and he will need to be on his toes in order to hold off Sportive, who is coming off of two solid races at Turf Paradise this spring.
There isn’t much doubt What’s Up Doc and Sportive are the ones to beat in the 3 1/2-furlong first-level allowance race for 3-year-olds that drew five horses and will go as the third race.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Despite the presence of undefeated Bond James Bond, contention runs deep in Saturday’s $50,000 Jim Coleman Province at Hastings. The 6 1/2-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds drew nine horses, and based on Beyer Speed Figures, The Great Caper is the one to beat.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – It has been quite an eventful year for Hilda’s Passion since the fleet filly won a first-level allowance at Arlington Park on Kentucky Derby Day 2010. Purchased privately after that race, Hilda’s Passion has made such tremendous strides that she will be the heavy favorite Saturday in the Grade 1 Humana Distaff, part of a terrific 2011 Derby undercard at Churchill Downs.
AUBURN, Wash. – Racing at Emerald Downs begins at 1 p.m. Pacific on Saturday, a special post time to accommodate the Kentucky Derby simulcast and a nine-race card.
The Derby Day feature race is a $21,000 allowance for 3-year-old fillies at 5-1/2 furlongs. Six horses were entered, including a formidable pair trained by Tom Wenzel.
FORT ERIE, Ontario – Fort Erie opens its 114th racing season Saturday and has scheduled 82 racing days, ending Tuesday, Nov. 1.
Over 1,000 stall applications have been received, and the horse population continued to expand through April. A total of 77 horses, including seven also-eligibles, were entered for Saturday’s eight-race card.
INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Sidney’s Candy returns to racing after a layoff of more than four months in Saturday’s $150,000 Mervyn LeRoy Handicap at Hollywood Park, where the 4-year-old colt will be a strong favorite to win his sixth career stakes.
Sidney’s Candy is the 123-pound highweight in the Grade 2 race over 1 1/16 miles on the synthetic main track, which trainer John Sadler envisions as a prep to major stakes during the summer, possibly the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile on turf on July 2.
OLDSMAR, Fla. – In a race that could well have a bearing on the battle for leading trainer at this meeting, leader Jamie Ness and second-place Gerald Bennett both have horses entered Saturday in a one-mile allowance feature on the turf on a 12-race Kentucky Derby Day program at Tampa Bay Downs.
Bennett, who has 55 wins coming into Friday's Tampa program, has entered Gimmiearide, who came off a short layoff with two strong wins on the turf and is likely to be favored in the field of nine fillies and mares.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Things appeared to be going swimmingly for Archarcharch and his connections in the three weeks since their 3-year-old won the Arkansas Derby.
