Hollywood Park: Stewards clear starter of any wrongdoing

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Hollywood Park starter Gary Brinson was exonerated of any wrongdoing by track stewards Sunday regarding a May 15 incident when the mare Dave’s Revenge was ruled a non-starter after she was found to be unprepared when the gate opened.

Dave’s Revenge, who was fourth in the 2008 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, has raced in claiming races for the last year and has developed a habit of being fractious in the gate or breaking slowly.

Woodbine: Victoria Park stretch battle of longshots goes to Moonshine Mullin by nose

ETOBICOKE, Ontario— Moonshine Mullin  prevailed in a head-bob finish over 26-1 outsider Alpha Bettor in the $152,500 Victoria Park Stakes at Woodbine Sunday.

Moonshine Mullin ($33.80) went directly to the lead under Emma Wilson, and proceeded to set slow fractions in the nine-furlong route. Three horses tracked the leader, including Alpha Bettor and  the favored Kentucky shipper, Twinspired, who began to retreat exiting the far turn.

Santa Anita Derby winner Midnight Interlude may experiment on turf

INGLEWOOD, Calif.- Midnight Interlude, the winner of the Santa Anita Derby in April, but 16th in the Kentucky Derby and 13th in the Preakness Stakes in May, has been entered in Friday’s $70,000 Tsunami Slew Stakes over a mile on turf at Hollywood Park.

Trainer Bob Baffert said on Sunday that he would assess the race and decide whether to start Midnight Interlude, who has never raced on turf. Owned by breeder Arnold Zetcher, Midnight Interlude has won 2 of 6 starts and $649,680.

Hollywood Park: Majestic City scores front-running win in Willard Proctor Memorial

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Majestic City remained unbeaten after two starts with an easy win in Sunday’s $78,470 Willard Proctor Memorial Stakes at Hollywood Park.

Ridden by David Flores, Majestic City ($2.40) led throughout and won by 3 1/2 lengths over an erratic Truco Latino, who bore out badly in the stretch and still had the place, finishing 9 1/4 lengths clear of third-place finisher Joyzey Billy in the field of five 2-year-olds.

Hollywood Gold Cup: Baffert intends to run First Dude and Game On Dude

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - The 2011 stakes winners Game On Dude and First Dude worked in company at Santa Anita on Sunday in preparation for expected starts in the $500,000 Hollywood Gold Cup on July 9, trainer Bob Baffert said.

First Dude was timed in 59.60 seconds for five furlongs, while Game On Dude was timed in 1:00.40. Baffert said on Sunday that he had considered shipping one of the 4-year-olds to another circuit, but has decided to stay home.

“It’ll be nice not to think about racing for a little while,’’ Motion said Sunday morning.

ELMONT, N.Y. - John Velazquez  said he believes that jockey Rajiv Maragh was careless in his handling of Isn’t He Perfect shortly after the start of Saturday’s Belmont Stakes, causing  Velazquez to nearly become unseated  from Animal Kingdom in the early stages of the race. Animal Kingdom, the Kentucky Derby winner and Preakness runner-up eventually finished sixth as the 5-2 favorite in the Belmont.

ELMONT, N.Y. -- Ruler On Ice, the upset winner of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, came out of the race in terrific shape, trainer Kelly Breen said Sunday morning.

“Looks great, as if he didn’t even run,” Breen said Sunday morning.
