Emerald Downs: Showme Yourfriends pays $102.40 in Auburn

AUBURN, Wash. - The Emerald Downs tote board lit up in a big way Monday when Showme Yourfriends, the second-longest shot on the board, raced to a half-length victory in the $50,000 Auburn Handicap for 3-year-olds. Showme Yourfriends paid $102.40, the largest win price at the meeting and the second-highest win payout in a stakes race in the track's 16-year history.

Kingofthebluegrass, who was racing for a $16,000 claiming tag a little more than a month ago, won for the second time within a week and for the first time in a stakes when he upset Monday’s $75,000 Memorial Day Handicap at Mountaineer Racetrack.

A 4-year-old colt who has been training at Keeneland with trainer Tevis McCauley, Kingofthebluegrass ($15.80) shipped to Mountaineer to win a second-level allowance going a mile and 70 yards on dirt on May 24, then came right back to make just his second lifetime start on turf.

Lone Star jockey Wade okay after spill

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Jockey Lindey Wade, who was thrown hard Monday at Lone Star Park when his mount, Icelain Diva, broke down in the $75,000 Cinemine, escaped serious injury and is scheduled to resume riding on Friday, which is the next card of races at Lone Star.

Wade, 20, took off the remainder of his mounts following the incident, which took place in the stretch run of the seventh race. Wade sat up following the spill, and after a few minutes walked into the attending ambulance. He was then examined by first-aid personnel in the grandstand at Lone Star.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Awesome Gem still has got it at 8. He rallied for a one-length win in the Grade 3, $300,000 Lone Star Park Handicap on Monday, then withstood a claim of foul to nail down the fourth graded stakes win of a career that began in 2006.

“What a warrior,” said Craig Dollase, who trains Awesome Gem for West Point Thoroughbreds.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Perseverance and loyalty were rewarded in a big way Monday at Belmont Park as the 6-year-old Tizway rolled to a 2 3/4-length victory in the Grade 1, $500,000 Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park.

It was the first Grade 1 victory for Tizway, who had run in five previous Grade 1 races starting with the 2009 Whitney - in which he was fourth - and including last year's Met Mile, in which he was third to Quality Road.
