MIAMI - Trainer Stanley Gold and owner-breeder Fred Brei’s Jacks or Better Farm did themselves one better on Saturday than a year ago, when they sent out stablemates Redbud Road and Awesome Belle to finish first and second in Calder’s $100,000 J J'sdream Stakes for 2-year-old fillies.

Woodbine: Eternal Rule scores in Achievement

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The unbeaten Eternal Rule made his stakes debut successful Saturday at Woodbine in the $150,000 Achievement, scoring by 5 1/4 lengths under David Clark.

Eternal Rule ($5.60) led the way through fractions of 22.70 and 45.44 seconds in the six-furlong dash for Ontario-bred 3-year-olds. He opened up a clear lead exiting the turn, and then drew off on his left lead while drifting in through the final furlong, winning in a time of 1:09.43.

Thistledown: Trophy Boy comes through in Cleveland Gold Cup

Heavy favorite Trophy Boy led every step of the way and drew off to a 3 3/4-length victory in the 44th running of the $75,000 Daniel Stearns Cleveland Gold Cup at Thistledown on Saturday afternoon.

Incantation finished second, 3 1/2 lengths in front of Elroy J, who finished third in the 1 1/8-mile event, which was run in 1:53.68.

Trophy Boy returned $2.80. He is trained by William D. Cowans and owned by Meadow Springs Farm LLC.

Churchill Downs: Machen, winner of Derby Trial, out for year

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Machen, the flashy winner of the April 30 Derby Trial on opening night of the Churchill Downs spring meet, has been sidelined for the rest of the year after sustaining a condylar fracture of his left front leg during a Friday workout at Churchill. Trained by Neil Howard for Donald Adam of Courtlandt Farms, Machen was being pointed to the Amsterdam Stakes at Saratoga before being injured.

Machen, a 3-year-old colt by Distorted Humor, was operated on by Dr. Larry Bramlage later Friday morning at the Rood and Riddle equine clinic in Lexington.

Trade Secret wore down 4-5 favorite Bibblesman on Saturday to win the Peppy Addy Stakes at Parx Racing.

The Peppy Addy and the co-featured Caught in the Rain for fillies were seven-furlong stakes for Pennsylvania breds.

The $72,750 Peppy Addy scratched down to only four runners, with the defection of Harbor Kid.

Louisiana Downs: Old Bushmill tries winners

A handful of half-siblings to some noted Louisiana-bred stakes winners will meet Monday in the featured third race at Louisiana Downs. The first-level allowance at a mile on turf is for 3-year-olds and up bred in Louisiana.

Old Bushmill, who is a half-brother to $585,328 earner Ide Like a Double, will be taking on winners for the first time after his score in a local maiden special weight for statebreds May 14. He won the 7 1/2-furlong turf race by a half-length as the favorite under regular rider Richard Eramia. Old Bushmill will break from the rail for trainer Morris Nicks.

Arlington: Ioya Bigtime targets 3 in row

Ioya Bigtime picked right up May  27 where he left off last July 11, winning a race at Arlington Park, and in Monday’s featured seventh race, Ioya Bigtime will try to land his third in a row.

A Team Block homebred by Dynaformer out of Ioya Two, Ioya Bigtime has the pedigree of an Illinois-bred standout. He lost his first two starts, but broke through third time out while racing on grass last summer.

Lone Star Park: Slide on Bye looking for stalking trip in allowance

Slide on Bye and The Cat Who will both shake one of the top turf mares in training, Wasted Tears, when they move back into the allowance ranks for Monday’s featured seventh race at Lone Star Park. The 7 1/2-furlong race drew 12 fillies and mares, including the comebacking Dade Babe, winner of last year’s Grade 3 Pucker Up at Arlington Park.

The allowance is wide open, and it should produce starters for such regional stakes as the $50,000 Ricks Memorial at Remington Park on Sept. 3 and the $100,000 River Cities at Louisiana Downs on Sept. 10.

Indiana Downs: My Bellamy trying turf in First Lady

My Bellamy will try the turf for the first time when she heads a full field of 12 Indiana-bred 3-year-old fillies in the $84,000 The Indiana First Lady at Indiana Downs on Tuesday evening.

Trainer Bob Gorham entered Perfectly Candid also, but whether she runs is a day to day decision according to Gorham.

“We ran her in the Florence Henderson prep, and the plan was to run her against older horses, I am just not sure if I want to do that or not.” Gorham said.
