Monmouth Park: Lil Kiara outduels Little Stitch in Spruce Fir

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Little separated the first two finishers in the $65,000 Spuce Fir Handicap on Sunday as Lil Kiara beat Little Stitch by a half- length at Monmouth Park.

Those two were never far apart throughout the mile-and-70-yard feature for New Jersey-bred fillies and mares.

Woodbine: Judy the Beauty works hard to stay unbeaten in Shady Well

The 2-year-old filly Judy the Beauty improves to 3 for 3 by taking the Shady Well.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The favored Judy the Beauty and second choice Dene Court battled through the entire stretch in Sunday’s $151,200 Shady Well Stakes, and Judy the Beauty came out on top in the 5 1/2-furlong sprint  for 2-year-old fillies at Woodbine.

The victory gave Judy the Beauty her third win in as many starts, in three different countries, all under Jeffrey Sanchez. She captured her debut at Keeneland, before notching an allowance race in France, and the Shady Well was her stakes debut.

Belmont Park: Banker's Buy ends drought in Miss South Shore

ELMONT, N.Y. – Banker’s Buy, the longest price in a field of five New York-bred fillies and mares, caught pacesetter Cody Samora in the stretch and drew away to win Sunday’s $58,800 Miss South Shore overnight stakes at Belmont Park by 2 3/4 lengths under John Velazquez.

Trained by Nick Zito, Banker’s Buy ($11) ran one mile in 1:36.91 over a fast main track, and earned $36,000 in notching her first win since July of last year.

Finger Lakes: Jeremias Flores wins 1,000th race of career

Jockey Jeremias Flores collected his 1,000th career win on Saturday at Finger Lakes when he guided Gold Ghost to a 3 3/4-length victory in the sixth race.

Flores made 128 visits to the winners circle during the 1998 season to set a record. No other Finger Lakes apprentice rider has challenged that mark. He registered his first stakes win aboard Charioteer’s Wand in the Wine Country Handicap that same year.

Prairie Meadows: Jake Mo, Page Springs score in co-features for 2-year-olds

ALTOONA, Iowa -- Locally-based 2-year-olds Jake Mo and Page Springs rose to the occasion in Saturday evening's co-featured $75,000 Prairie Gold Juvenile Stakes and $81,750 Prairie Gold Lassie Stakes, both contested at 5 1/2 furlongs at Prairie Meadows.

Jake Mo, a stoutly-bred Giacomo colt, put forth an impressive display of speed to take the Prairie Gold Juvenile by 2 3/4 lengths in 1:03.75.

Meadowlands Pace: Roll With Joe prevails by a neck

For the third time in five years, driver Ron Pierce crossed the wire first in the $1 million Meadowlands Pace on Saturday night.

Pierce guided Roll With Joe to a neck victory over the favored Big Jim in a swift 1:48.2.

It’s going to be the Fire and Ice Haskell.

Belmont Stakes winner Ruler On Ice and Louisiana Derby and Pegasus Stakes winner Pants On Fire will both start in the $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park on July 31, their connections announced on Sunday. Both horses are owned by George and Lori Hall and trained by Kelly Breen, who are New Jersey residents and maintain their racing stable at Monmouth Park.

Sacramento: Point of Reference just catches Whispering Express in State Fair Sprint

Favored Point of Reference came from last in the eight-horse field and caught Whispering Express at the wire to win the $76,190 California State Fair Sprint Handicap on Saturday at Sacramento.

Ridden by Inoel Beato, Point of Reference benefitted from a speed duel between Whispering Express and Strawberry Tart. They exchanged the lead through fractions of 21.42 and 44.26 in the six-furlong dirt race for fillies and mares. Whispering Express put away Strawberry Tart before hitting the stretch and held off all rivals but Point of Reference.
