Rush Now's speed key in West Virginia Derby

WEST VIRGINIA DERBY DAY: Video Analysis, news, PPs and LIVE streaming video of the entire card.

Many horseplayers believe that the longer a race, the better the chance of a closer's success, and they tend to bet that way. They look for the late-runner, reasoning the adding distance will move them up.

The problem is that longer races typically attract less speed, and the pace can, in turn, unfold slower, giving the advantage back to the front-runner.

Arapahoe: Kenneth Street has edge in Silver Cup Futurity

Kenneth Street might be leaving the Colorado-bred ranks behind for the first time in the $20,000 Silver Cup Futurity at Arapahoe Park, but no 2-year-old will bring better credentials into the 5 1/2-furlong race.

Of the 12 set to start, Kenneth Street is the lone winner in the field. He also is the only horse who has placed in a stakes race, having run third in the $42,000 Colorado Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association Futurity in his most recent start July 16.
