Saratoga pick six has $192K carryover

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - There will be a pick-six carryover of $192,141 into Friday's Saratoga card after Thursday's pick six was essentially canceled following the third leg because the final three legs of the sequence were moved from the turf to the dirt after wagering had closed.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Ask the Moon, the front-running upset winner of the Grade 1 Ruffian Invitational here July 31, is entered back for Sunday’s Grade 1, $300,000 Personal Ensign Invitational going 1 1/4 miles.

Ask the Moon, who drew post 3, may relish the expected wet-track conditions as she is 4 for 8 on such surfaces.

Saratoga: Trappe Shot works; next start undecided

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Trappe Shot, the beaten favorite in the Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap here Aug. 7, worked four furlongs in 49.72 seconds Thursday morning over the main track. He went in fractions of 12.84, 25.04, and galloped out five furlongs in 1:02.61.

Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin moved the work up by two days to avoid the wet weather. Showers turned the main track sloppy by the middle of Thursday’s card.

Indian Apple Is, winning the Sweet Briar Too in July, can solidify her credentials as Canada's leading female sprinter by winning Sunday's Bessarabian.

Indian Apple Is, who was Canada’s Sovereign Award-winning female sprinter last year, has been retired.

“She just wasn’t the same mare this year,” said Bob Tiller, who trained the homebred 5-year-old for owner Frank DiGiulio Jr. “She started to have issues, and she was telling us that she’d had enough. She’s been awful good to us so we decided to pull the plug and call it a career.”

Hoosier Park: Unreachable Star goes for three-peat in Brickyard

Unreachable Star will attempt to win the $84,000 Brickyard Stakes at Hoosier Park for the third straight time when he faces a full field of older Indiana-bred colts and geldings in the six-furlong sprint on Saturday.

The 7-year-old Unreachable Star comes into the race off a neck win in the Aug. 4 prep. That victory was his second of the season and followed the William Henry Harrison at Indiana Downs on May 28.

Canterbury Park: Samendra tops Laddie

The co-features at Canterbury Park this Saturday will showcase 3-year-old males and fillies whose sires’ services were purchased at the 2006 Minnesota Thoroughbred Association’s stallion auction. Both races are run at 6 1/2 furlongs over the main track and carry a purse of $25,000.

The MTA Laddie Stakes has two sons of Demidoff who look to be the ones to beat. The morning-line favorite is Samendra, the second-place finisher in the Victor S. Meyers Stakes here. Samendra also boasts an allowance win this season and was the beaten favorite last out in the Minnesota Derby.
