ARCADIA, Calif. – California Flag’s record third career win in the Grade 3 Morvich Stakes at Santa Anita on Monday could lead to his fourth consecutive appearance in the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5.

On Tuesday, trainer Brian Koriner stopped short of committing the 7-year-old California Flag to the BC Turf Sprint, wanting to see how the gelding reacts to the race in coming days.

“He’d had to show that he’s training great and throwing himself around,” Koriner said. “So far, everything has been good for him.”

Emerald Gold ran third in the Del Mar Debutante

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Michael Matz has an unbeaten 2-year-old colt for the Breeders’ Cup, so how about an unbeaten filly for it, too?

Matz got a tremendous thrill last weekend when Union Rags stamped himself as the likely favorite for the BC Juvenile by remaining undefeated with a romping victory in the Champagne Stakes at Belmont Park, and the widely admired trainer might be in a position for something similar Thursday at Keeneland, where he will send out Somali Lemonade as a major contender in the Grade 3, $150,000 Jessamine Stakes for 2-year-old fillies.
