ETOBICOKE, Ontario — Tu Endie Wei staked her claim for the Sovereign Award as Canadian champion 2-year-old filly with a convincing win over a quality field in the $152,100 Glorious Song Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday.

With Jim McAleney aboard, Tu Endie Wei was pressed through fractions of 22.61 seconds and 45.41 in the seven-furlong sprint. Miss Scarlet Road made a four-wide bid for the lead exiting the turn, before Tu Endie Wei drew away to score by 4 ¾ lengths, in 1:21.97.

Laurel: One jockey loses balance, but another falls in bizarre incident

One jockey inadvertently knocked another off his mount during Saturday’s third race at Laurel Park, resulting in a disqualification but no serious injury or further penalty from the stewards.

Matthew Rispoli lost his balance aboard Sweet Energy around the first turn of a one-mile race on the turf. Rispoli bumped and unseated fellow rider Joshua Navarro, who fell and was kicked in the left shoulder by Racyn With Gracyn as he rolled onto the turf course.

Golden Gate Fields racing secretary Greely dismissed

Golden Gate Fields dismissed racing secretary Sean Greely and several other employees in an economic-related cutback.

Joe Morris, the track’s general manager, called the decision “a payroll cut” and said that Greely’s assistant and stakes coordinator David Jerkens would take over the role as racing secretary.

Greely was named racing secretary in October 2004.

Jerkens is the grandson of Hall of Fame trainer Allen Jerkens. His father, Steven, and uncle, James, are also trainers.

Charles Town: Coin Collector among seven new members of track's Hall of Fame

Larry Dupuy, now a steward at Charles Town, won six Breeders' Cup Classic races during his career as a jockey.

Coin Collector, a two-time winner of the West Virginia Breeders’ Classic, and Miss Prime, a mare nicknamed the “Citation of the bush league tracks,” are among the seven newest members of Charles Town’s Racing Hall of Fame.

The class of 2011, which will be inducted during a ceremony at the track on Saturday, Dec. 10, includes former jockeys Larry Duruy and Woody Kirk, West Virginia Breeders’ Classic founders Sam Huff and Carol Holden, along with Ann Hilton and Elwood Heironimus.

Sure Shot B won the richest race in Texas on Saturday night, when he led throughout in the Grade 1, $1,158,941 Texas Classic Futurity for Quarter Horses. The race came on the final night of the Lone Star Park meet, and it shared a program with the Grade 1, $335,631 Texas Classic Derby that was won by Cold Cash 123.

Sure Shot B ($20) was a half-length winner over Algorithmic, while it was another half-length back in third to Special Royal Corona. Sure Shot Be covered 400 yards on a fast track in 19.42 seconds, with Salvador Martinez aboard for trainer John Stinebaugh.
