It Happened Again, racing for the first time since late June, wins the 1 1/8-mile Claiming Crown Jewel under jockey Shane Sellers.

NEW ORLEANS – Three seasons ago at Fair Grounds, it wasn’t happening for It Happened Again, who finished 10th in the 2009 Risen Star Stakes. By last fall, the gelding had fallen all the way into the $20,000 claiming ranks, at which point owner Maggi Moss requested Steve Asmussen claim the horse. Then things started happening.

Woodbine: Dixie Strike gets first stakes win in Ontario Lassie

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Dixie Strike notched her first stakes victory convincingly in the $151,600 Ontario Lassie at Woodbine Saturday.

Bear’s Song established a slow pace in the 1 1/16-mile route for 2-year-old fillies, while Dixie Strike raced in mid-pack under Patrick Husbands. Dixie Strike commenced a four-wide rally at the quarter pole, and then hit the front early in the stretch before kicking clear for a 5 1/2-length score in 1:44.92.

Aqueduct: Short rest no problem for C C's Pal in Garland of Roses

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – After the first time he ran C C’s Pal, trainer Richard Dutrow Jr. got the idea to try to keep the 4-year-old filly sprinting.

But when she drew the outside post in the Grade 2 Go for Wand on Nov. 25, Dutrow decided to put those plans on hold and run her in that one-mile race. When the Aqueduct racing office called Dutrow on Wednesday to let him know Saturday’s six-furlong Garland of Roses was coming up light, Dutrow decided to wheel the filly back in eight days off her third-place Go for Wand finish.
