Aqueduct: Pletcher likely to run pair in Toboggan

Adam Coglianese/NYRA
Calibrachoa, with Jose Lezcano riding, wins the Bold Ruler.

Trainer Todd Pletcher said Sunday that he is likely to run both Calibrachoa and Caixa Eletronica in Saturday’s Grade 3, $150,000 Toboggan Stakes at six furlongs at Aqeduct.

Initially, Pletcher was thinking of running just Calibrachoa – last year’s Toboggan winner – and holding Caixa Eletronica out until the General George on Feb. 20 at Laurel Park.

“They’re both doing well, they both like Aqueduct. I think in Caixa Eletronica’s case I don’t think running him necessarily means that he cannot run back in the General George – 16 days for him might be enough,” Pletcher said.

Gulfstream Park: Brown in no rush for Awesome Feather-Havre de Grace matchup

Barbara D. Livingston
Awesome Feather scores a 5 3/4-length victory in Saturday’s Florida Sunshine Millions Distaff.

Led by reigning Horse of the Year Havre de Grace, there is plenty of depth in the older filly and mare division this year.

Awesome Feather put herself among the upper echelon of that group with a 5 3/4-length victory in Saturday’s Florida Sunshine Millions Distaff that kept her undefeated in nine career starts.

Trainer Chad Brown isn’t sure where Awesome Feather – the champion 2-year-old filly of 2010 – will make her next start, but appeared to be leaning more toward the Rampart here March 31 than the Sabin on Feb. 25.
