Falbrav may opt for BC Classic

Falbrav is almost certain to be at Santa Anita on Breeders' Cup day, but the six-time Group 1 winner could be rerouted from the Turf to the Classic.

With Mineshaft, Candy Ride and Empire Maker all Classic defectors, trainer Luca Cumani is contemplating a switch to the Classic. If that is the ultimate decision, it would be Falbrav's first run on dirt after 24 starts on turf.

High Chaparral iffy for BC

High Chaparral is "far from certain" to run in the Breeders' Cup Turf, said his trainer, Aidan O'Brien, on Wednesday.

Although High Chaparral, the defending Turf champ, came out of his second consecutive third-place finish in Sunday's Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in good order, O'Brien cautioned that a decision has not yet been made about sending him to Santa Anita for the Oct. 25 Breeders' Cup.

Alamshar sold to Japanese

Alamshar has been sold to the Japan Racing Association by The Aga Khan and will not run in the Canadian International at Woodbine.

Winner of the Irish Derby and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes, Alamshar will have one more race before heading to Japan for stud duties: the 1 1/4-mile Champion Stakes at Newmarket on Oct. 18.

Trainer John Oxx said that the Canadian International was ruled out because of the presence of West Nile virus near Toronto, which would make passage into Japan difficult.

Soggy going yields surprises on Arc undercard

PARIS - So sticky was the ground at Longchamp on Sunday that it is difficult to surmise the impact made by the five Group 1 races that served as the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe undercard.

Dalakhani takes Arc over boggy course

PARIS - Winners of the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe are frequently draped in the multicolored mantle of hyperbole. And while Dalakhani's performance in the $1.87 million race at Longchamp on Sunday deserves high praise, it does not rank him among the greatest of Arc winners.

In defeating the very game Group 2-type Mubtaker by three-quarters of a length, Dalakhani not only established himself as one of the best 3-year-old in the world, but he also displayed a versatility rarely seen in a Thoroughbred of his relatively tender years.

Dalakhani wins l'Arc de Triomphe

PARIS, France - If there were any doubts as to who is the best 3-year-old in the world, Dalakhani laid them to rest with his victory in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Sunday.

The Aga Khan's homebred Darshaan colt gave what was expected of him as the 7-5 favorite in the $1.87 million Group 1 mile and a half as he ran down the 32-1 Mubtaker a furlong from home to win by three quarters of a length.

Weightless dominates Prix Dollar

PARIS - Could the victory of Weightless in the Prix Dollar at Longchamp on Saturday have earned him a place in the Breeders' Cup Classic?

That will be one of the questions hanging over the Classic this week after Weightless, a 3-year-old son of In the Wings, proved as light as air over the sticky going in the Group 2 Dollar, leading throughout for a convincing two-length victory at 5-1 over entrymate Short Pause.

Many BC hopefuls on Arc undercard

PARIS - Five Group 1 races on the Arc undercard will provide clues as to which Europeans will be at Santa Anita Oct. 25 for the Breeders' Cup. Most important to keep an eye on are the $292,000 Prix de l'Opera and the $234,000 Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp.

Bright Sky, Ana Marie, and Yesterday, all possible for the Filly and Mare Turf, were withdrawn from the Arc for a try in the 1 1/4-mile Opera for fillies and mares.
