Montare by a nose at Longchamp

Montare, 4-1, won a nose decision over Irish raider Arch Rebel in the Group 2, $185,000 Prix du Conseil de Paris at Longchamp on Sunday, traveling the 1 1/2 miles in 2:29.40.

A 5-year-old daughter of Montjeu, Montare will now head to Sha Tin for the 1 1/2-mile Hong Kong Vase on Dec. 9.

* Linngari earned Group 1 stripes at San Siro in Milan on Sunday, winning the $278,000, one-mile Premio Vittorio di Capua by by three-quarters of a length. He will now go to Dubai for the Winter Carnival there, during which he finished a fast closing second in last year's Dubai Duty Free.

Darley sets 2008 stud fees

European champion Manduro, 2007 Epsom Derby winner Authorized, and 2006 juvenile champion Teofilo will all enter stud in 2008 with fees between $50,000 and $60,000.

Sheikh Mohammed al-Maktoum's Darley operation announced Monday that Manduro and Teofilo will stand at its Kildangan Stud in Ireland for about $56,400. Authorized will launch his stud career at Darley's Dalham Hall headquarters in England with a fee of about $50,500.

Darley also announced that Manduro and Authorized will switch locations in 2009.

Peslier wins 2,000th French race

Olivier Peslier became just the fifth jockey in history to win 2,000 races in France when he guided Moonlanding to win a 1 1/4-mile handicap at Chantilly on Thursday. The 34-year-old Frenchman, four times the champion rider in his native land, joins Roger Poincelet, Yves Saint-Martin, Freddy Head, and Dominique Boeuf on that elite list.

Peslier now has about 2,480 victories worldwide in a career that began in 1991.

Prices dip near English sale's end

Prices slipped across the board Thursday as the final sessions of the Tattersalls October yearling sale, termed Book 3, began in Newmarket, England. The first of three days' selling in that portion of the auction produced a $149,940 session-topper, a Mtoto colt that Alex Greaves purchased from Highclere Stud's consignment.

England's Tattersalls auction house began its October yearling sales Tuesday with a session that looked similar to the recently concluded Keeneland September yearling auction, with a lower price at the market peak but an increase in the median price.

Jockey Club honors Romanet

Louis Romanet, director general of France-Galop, the ruling body of French racing, was awarded the Jockey Club Medal for his exceptional contributions to the Thoroughbred breeding and racing industry on Monday. The presentation was made by the Jockey Club's president, Alan Marzelli, at the annual meeting in Paris of the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities, which Romanet chairs.

Australian influenza outbreak spreading

Australia's first outbreak of equine influenza is continuing to spread in New South Wales, most recently prompting a lockdown at the Rosehill racecourse near Sydney on Saturday after a number of horses there received positive tests for the highly contagious respiratory disease.

The affected horses at Rosehill had received the first of two vaccines against equine influenza eight days earlier and were due to receive the second-stage booster shot this week, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
