The owners of Hong Kong star Beauty Generation chose a local campaign over international adventures this spring, and from that perspective, things could not be going better.

Rather than travel for the $6 million Dubai Turf on March 30 (a trip for which trainer John Moore lobbied), Beauty Generation stayed home and easily won the Chairman’s Trophy Stakes on April 7. That race was a prep for the Group 1, $2.3 million Champions Mile on Sunday at Sha Tin Racecourse, but the Champions Mile somehow came up a softer race than the Chairman’s Trophy.

In December, Exultant won the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase at Sha Tin Racecourse, a $2.5 million race that is part of Hong Kong’s leading international program of the year.

Sunday at Sha Tin, Exultant will be favored to win his fourth consecutive start in Hong Kong’s richest race of the spring – the Group 1, $3.05 million Queen Elizabeth II Cup at 1 1/4 miles on turf.

The English 2000 Guineas is coming up too darn quick for Too Darn Hot.

The Cartier 2-year-old champion of 2018 in Europe was favored all winter long to win the Guineas on May 4, but after being forced out of an intended prep race last weekend in the Craven Stakes, Too Darn Hot now is out of the Guineas itself, his connections revealed over the weekend.

Fat Turtle may have gained as much in a recent loss at Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong as he did by winning his debut on that circuit at Happy Valley Racecourse last month.

Fat Turtle, who starts in Wednesday’s $175,908 Korea Racing Authority Trophy at Happy Valley, was beaten 1 3/4 lengths in a six-furlong handicap at Sha Tin, leading to the final furlong before finishing second. The determination Fat Turtle showed in that defeat should work to his advantage in the Korea Racing Authority Trophy, which is run at six furlongs.
