In a Dubai World Cup first, U.S. will bet into 'world pools'

Extravagant Kid trains at Meydan on Monday. On past Dubai World Cup cards, the United States bet into a pool comprised solely of wagers from North American sites.

U.S. bettors who wager on the Dubai World Cup and its undercard this Saturday will be betting for the first time into pools that commingle wagers from customers on five continents.

The pools, which will be hosted by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, are part of an effort by international racing authorities to consolidate wagering pools on major international racing events among all racing jurisdictions in the world. The Hong Kong Jockey Club also hosted so-called “world pools” on the March 6 card from Dubai.

Happy Valley: Stock Legend has come alive after numerous changes

Three days after the Hong Kong Derby, one of the highlights of the Hong Kong racing season, the stage lights will be much dimmer on the Happy Valley card Wednesday.

This is Hong Kong’s everyday racing product, not the big stage, and a trio of Class 3 handicaps, the last three races on the card, headline the nine-race program.

Australia: Handicap at Sandown looks like battle among three fillies

The 3-year-old fillies Bold Manner, Charm School and Sirileo Miss meet for the first time in a handicap at 6 1/2 furlongs at Sandown Racecourse in Melbourne, Australia, on Wednesday, each with an excellent chance to win for the second time in her brief career.

The fillies have taken divergent paths to reach Wednesday’s race, which is run on the Lakeside course that is the inner of two courses at Sandown. The Lakeside course has a slightly shorter stretch than the outer Hillside course.

Any of the three could be favored in a highly competitive field of 13.

Australia: Rain postpones Golden Slipper Stakes, Sydney autumn racing carnival

The Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes, and four other races at that level, were postponed a week after excessive rain forced the cancellation of an all-stakes program Saturday at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney, Australia.

Four other top-level Saturday programs at Rosehill Gardens and Royal Randwick Racecourse in Sydney over the next month have been postponed one week as a result, meaning the five-Saturday Sydney autumn racing carnival will conclude April 24 instead of April 17.
