Erika Vita steps up in Japanese Oaks

The Japanese stakes-winning filly Erika Vita may have a slight edge over her high-profile rivals in Sunday’s Grade 1 Japanese Oaks at Tokyo Racecourse.

A winner of 2 of 3 starts, Erika Vita has yet to run in a Grade 1 race, but did win the Grade 2 Flora Stakes at 1 1/4 miles on April 24 at Tokyo in a prep for the $2.39 million Japanese Oaks at 1 1/2 miles. Tuesday primed for big Sunday in Irish 1000 Guineas

Dubai Racing Club
Lord North, between horses in the blue-and-white cap, dead-heats for the win with Panthalassa (inside) in the Group 1 Dubai Turf on March 26. He is favored in Sunday's Tattersalls Gold Cup.

Sunday, May 1, in England was not quite the day for Tuesday, but Sunday, May 22, in Ireland might be.

Tuesday looks like the leading hope to give trainer Aidan O’Brien his 11th win in the Group 1 Irish 1000 Guineas. She’s one of four Aidan O’Brien-trained entrants among 14 3-year-old fillies entered in the one-turn-mile classic at The Curragh.

Australia: Devine Miss cuts back to five furlongs in Canberra handicap

The Australian 3-year-old filly Devine Miss has a kick that has led to top three finishes in all six of her starts.

Twice a winner, Devine Miss is most effective in shorter sprint distances, leaving her in a good position for a third career win in a five-furlong handicap at Canberra Racecourse on Friday.

Eason adapting nicely to Hong Kong circuit

Eason, a 3-year-old Australian import, didn’t require any easing into his Hong Kong racing career.

He was a good second making his debut Dec. 5 and in six starts has never finished worse than second. Eason has won his last two races, proving much too tough for Class 3 handicap competition, and with a good draw and a favorable weight, he easily can win his first start against Class 2 rivals in the featured ninth race Wednesday at Happy Valley.
